14 Day "You Got This" Challenge

DAY 8

The Phone Purge

Day 8: The phone Purge

Phones are great for connections, business and entertainment, but when they become the need for our happiness, entertainment, and a necessity to pass the time...we might need to do some adjustments on our end.

Have you ever taken a look at how much time you actually spend looking at that tiny rectangular screen each day?

Do you catch yourself grabbing your phone when there is a "slow" moment?

Do you feel like you always need to check in on things? Who emailed me? Did someone respond to my post?

Does "ding, ding, ding" all day sometimes interrupt your train of thought or conversations?

If you feel like that and/or don't like your screen time number, below are some easy things you can do to help clean up your phone time.

Phone purge TIPSπŸ‘‡

Goal: What we are going for here is peace.  The "okay" to be calm.  The allowing of our bodies and minds to be still and not constantly stimulated or being controlled by a piece of technology!

Clean your phone:

  • Give that phone a good clean down with a Clorox wipe or something anti-bacterial
  • Go through and remove any apps you don't need
  • Add your apps into organizable folders so your apps are easily accessible when you need them

Notification cleaning:

We don't need to be so available to everyone at every given moment.  It is okay to let things sit for a bit.  Set check-in points throughout the day that you can go in and check on your items instead of mindlessly checking all day.

  • In the settings of your phone, turn OFF all unnecessary notifications
    • Facebook, Instagram, Twitter all will be okay without you if you don't respond back to a comment the same minute it came in
    • Turn off email notifications, this was the biggest thing I did that gave me so much peace.  I still had the email app on my phone, but just wasn't "dinging" every 2 mins

Set boundaries

  • If you feel like you are spending too much time on certain apps, set up time limits for those specific apps. Personally, I have limits set on social media so I am more mindful of getting in and out instead of sitting around with needless continuous scrolling.
  • Know that it is okay to "hide your phone".  Whether you're with the kids, on a walk, or dinner with your spouse, each little "ding" an interruption into that precious time.

Have fun cleaning up your phone!  Can't wait for Day 9! πŸ’»
