Did you think I'd lay down and die

Oh no, not I, I will survive"

WEEKLY AFFIRMATION BROUGHT TO YOU BY SHIRLEY FROM SHADES OF STRONG

Affirmation: I'm taking life one moment at a time. God will take care of the rest.

When you’re in a personal crisis sometimes focusing on one day at a time can be overwhelming. The reality is a lot can happen in a day, so learning how to deal with each moment as it comes is much more manageable than looking at an entire day and trying to figure out how you’re going to get through it.  It’s okay to take bite size pieces, sis.

Neversay of the Week

Neversay:

Chinese Virus

Say:

Coronavirus, COVID-19, the Rona

Explanation:

Let's not even talk about if the term is racist or not because 99.9% of people will never accept that their behavior as racist.  Let's just stick with the fact that using the term "Chinese Virus" will cause Chinese people, Chinese Americans - honestly all Asian people because most people are uninformed and like to broadly group people - to be abused, harassed, beaten. Asian children will be teased and bullied when schools open. Americans of Asian descent will be scared to go out for fear of being attacked. Attacks against Asian Americans are on the rise. So just know that information - accept it - and then ask, would it not be more human, kind, intelligent to call it the Coronavirus - as it's been called by medical professionals for years?

As a quick sidenote: Mad Cow Disease started in England. I've never heard one person suggest that it be called The European Disease.

Black-owned business spotlight

Instead of highlighting a Black business this week, I'd like to provide you with some ideas of how you can support small businesses during this time:

  • Buy gift certificates
  • Pre-pay for items/services
  • Buy packages (for instance, I bought a package for 10 lash refills)
  • Advertise! Now you have some time to write those yelp reviews, and post about and tag your favorite businesses
  • Contact them to ask if they are offering different services/products during this time. Many small business have gotten creative. (for instance, a catering business I know is delivering soul food to families during the week)
  • Shop online

Are you a black owned business or know of one that should be featured? Email me!
