UNITY by Monica Stewart

We all have sorrow

But if we are wise

We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong

And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry on

For it won't be long

'Til I'm gonna need

Somebody to lean on

The entire country of Ghana isn’t locked-down - just the major cities because we haven’t had a major spread of the Coronavirus.  Our President took upfront measures very early which limited the spread.

Early on, when people flew into Ghana they were tested and placed on an immediate 14-day quarantine.  77 out of those tourists who were tested were positive.  We are not allowed to go to neighboring towns; and can only leave our homes to get water, food, and medical supplies.

We have been locked down since the beginning of April. Most people are complying because we all want things to go back to normal as quickly as possible. Of course, there are some who aren’t taking it as seriously. The police have been patrolling the streets. The police are the civilians’ friends; but now the military is patrolling. When you see the military in our streets, we know things are serious.

Businesses are suffering. Those who don’t sell groceries, water or medical supplies are going out of business. It is affecting a lot of people. In the business community, we are hopeful that we will all come back stronger when it’s all said and done.

I saw on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah that Trump took the virus for granted and did not take the necessary precautions early. I strongly believe that Ghana will get through this situation quickly. We’ve just gotta wait for the outside world.
