As we boarded the big red B.E.S.T bus, my grandmother would say, "Quick rush to the first seat!". The seat was reserved for the disabled, but who would stop an eager child from sitting there? Besides, it was the best seat with direct view of the road ahead, definitely worth ignoring the heat emitted from the engine at the front. The seats directly behind the disabled sear were reserved for ladies. That's where my mother and grandmother would sit. The journey from Santacruz to Flora Fountain was long – more than an hour even in those days where traffic wasn't as big of a problem as it is now.

Kuber Shah is a lifestyle photographer. After spending 15 years in Berlin, he returned home to Mumbai in 2014 and has since, been documenting the city, its architecture, its people and its stories. His ongoing pet project, Doors of Mumbai, continues to archive the facades and feelings of the city's oldest building.
