Good Taco Tuesday!
The other day I found an old devotional book that I read many many many years ago. As I leafed through it the stories came back to my memory with a quiet smile! You may have this little book, ‘This is the Day’ by Sue Monk Kidd. I want to share one of the short devotions with you: “I was leafing through one of several books about the sea that I had brought along for my children to read at the beach. There are 85,000 varieties of sea animals!
The little book said. Creatures with ten legs. A scallop with two rows of blue eyes. A whale as long as a boxcar. A grasshopper fish that jumps along the ocean floor.
The ocean – the great brewing pot for God’s imagination.
“What are you reading?” my son asked.
“Your book,” I replied, holding up a page that showed a little boy on the beach surrounded by all sorts of marine life – anemones, sea turtles, an electric eel. “Just look at these creatures God made!” I said. “Which one do you like best?”
He studied the picture, his face breaking into an impish little grin. “The boy!” he answered.
I was surprised. Of course, of course, I thought. Of all the creatures God made, His imagination reached a height when He made man. I lowered the book and studied the people on the beach. Perhaps I needed to look at the human family with new eyes, to see each person as the marvelous creature he is and most of all, as a tiny portrait of God’s own image.
Lord, help me to appreciate anew Your world of wonders – and especially Your human creation.
My prayer for you today is that you will be refreshed with God’s wonder and that you will look at each person, each child as a beautiful creatures created by a magnificent artist!
