SUNDAY SELF CARE JOURNAL

LISTEN TO YOUR HEART | VOL.21 | 2020

Hi {{ subscriber.firstName | default('love') }}

I made a post earlier this week that said "I don't know what to say this week".  I really felt like I needed to say SOMETHING about the strong movement happening in our country, but I couldn't figure out what.

The past few weeks left me sad, horrified and disgusted by the direct targeting and inequality of black people in our country (the past few weeks have pointed this out, yet it's been a constant in our culture), and hopeful to see that so many people are collectively demanding change.

I don't know quite how to react or contribute yet personally, and I wanted to share with you that if you don't yet either, it's ok.  Please go easy on yourself.  There is a lot of pressure coming from so many different directions.  To speak, to not speak, to make a post, to not make a post, that silence is telling, to show up, but don't show up for certain parts, if a business doesn't show up it's obviously on the wrong side, to have the tough conversations, to not say the wrong thing, to support, to not support, how you support...THAT YOU WILL BE JUDGED.  Literally, it's from all directions and if it feels important yet impossible to say and do the "right" thing, you're not alone.  I'm asking you, as your friend, to please turn that judgement off and keep it out of your spectrum.

How you show up to contribute is not for anyone else to judge.

I don't know what to say, but I do know that in our house, we teach kindness and equality to EVERYONE.  I know that when my family sees a person being treated unfairly or bullied, we stand up for them, period.  I believe in being a good person. I believe that as a human and as a mother, this is absolutely a form of contribution. I also know that as our country and world is evolving (YES!!!!), as this movement is happening and things are changing, just as I do in my own journey with myself, it's important to reevaluate how I show up to human equality as well, and to continue educating myself.  By listening right now, I can hear that there is still so much I can learn and incorporate, that I want to contribute to the change we yearn for and demand to see.

So for now, I don't know what to say, so I am listening.

I'm not an expert on this subject by ANY means, but I have substantially educated myself on self care and I fully believe that we need to take care of ourselves - mind body and spirit - to show up as our best selves in any situation.

The world needs us to show up as our best selves right now.

I encourage you, as I always do, to listen to your heart.

It's important to take a step back right now and check in with you.

Please take care of yourself during so much shift in our world.  Take the time for your own self care (I MEAN THIS!), to listen to what you need and to feel confident in the ways that work for YOU to contribute to change.  It's not irrelevant and it's not small.  The love you put out begins with you.  Sending you so much love.
