06/06/20 Daily Tip - Don't Give Up!

We were SO excited last week to hear about one of our readers’ successes. Khai, aka @khaitv22 started using TikTok regularly in May, during our first 30-Day TikTok Challenge. We loved having him as a participant, he was always a positive spirit in the group, and had serious editing skills.

But for some reason, his videos were simply not getting the views that they deserved. At one point, he thought that his account was possibly shadow-banned. However, he kept trying a technique that one of our readers @EatitKatie always suggests: just keep throwing spaghetti at a wall, meaning, keep trying random things until something sticks!

We’ve seen many people give up way too quickly on TikTok. It can be frustrating when you watch other people join TikTok and instantly shoot up to tens of thousands of followers.

Khai never gave up though! He pushed through for two entire months, slugging away, trying different things and he scored his first viral video! It pushed up the video views of all his video. The video that finally fit for him was a dance tutorial video. TikTok favors dance content and is currently pushing educational content so this was a winning combination!

It took two months of concentrated effort for Khai to get his first viral video, how long are you willing to invest?

NEW TikTok Feature: Profile Share

TikTok made it even easier to share your profile with your friends and followers! You used to have to click through a couple of steps to share your TikTok profile. With the newest TikTok update, you can just click on your profile image and instantly grab the link to share your link easily to keep on promoting your profile.

You can also click on the profile picture of anyone else on TikTok to easily share their profile. Also cool is that you have the option to change your profile picture easily before sharing your link. We love how TikTok makes it so easy to share your content on other channels!

TikTok News

TikTok banned in India, could the US be next?

The biggest TikTok news at the moment is the fact that it’s been banned in India. We are still watching to see if this is a temporary ban, India has banned TikTok twice before in the past and reinstated it. TikTok has been plagued by privacy issues since the beginning, so is the US next?

We don’t think so, many have built an ecosystem of livelihoods, businesses, and incomes on TikTok and a ban in the US would come under heavy fire from users and the overall tech industry. However, it’s clear that TikTok needs an image makeover and TikTok seems to be working to make itself more transparent.

TikTokers Create a Lobbying Group

TikTokers and other social media influencers started the American Influencer Council. The founding members mostly have over one million followers and aim to "usher in a new era of legitimacy for career influencers, who are American small business owners and media innovators.” Unfortunately, the council is invite only, but they are lobbying for all influencers’ rights

Facebook is shutting down it’s TikTok copycat

Facebook has quite a history of copying other apps to take them down. They launched Lasso back in 2018 to try to topple TikTok. You've probably never heard of this app as it was a total flop, but Facebook is now throwing all its energy to focus on Instagram Reels, another attempt to take down TikTok. They are currently testing it in Brazil, France, and Germany.

Although Facebook was able to take down Snapchat quite effectively with the launch of Instagram Stories, it has tried unsuccessfully to take down Pinterest with copycat apps in the past.

TikTok of the Day

We would love to take some time to feature our late reader Richard Liang aka @Foodiejudge . He was a very active member of our Facebook Group and inspired us to invest our time in TikTok and ultimately to start the 30-Day TikTok Challenge. He was a true pioneer, killing it on TikTok a year before everyone else jumped on the trend.

He was such a kind and bright light and we can’t even express how much we are going to miss not having his wisdom and graciousness in the group.

For those who knew him, here is his gofundme to help with funeral costs.
