TikTok banned in India, could the US be next?
The biggest TikTok news at the moment is the fact that itâs been banned in India. We are still watching to see if this is a temporary ban, India has banned TikTok twice before in the past and reinstated it. TikTok has been plagued by privacy issues since the beginning, so is the US next?
We donât think so, many have built an ecosystem of livelihoods, businesses, and incomes on TikTok and a ban in the US would come under heavy fire from users and the overall tech industry. However, itâs clear that TikTok needs an image makeover and TikTok seems to be working to make itself more transparent.
TikTokers Create a Lobbying Group
TikTokers and other social media influencers started the American Influencer Council. The founding members mostly have over one million followers and aim to "usher in a new era of legitimacy for career influencers, who are American small business owners and media innovators.â Unfortunately, the council is invite only, but they are lobbying for all influencersâ rights
Facebook is shutting down itâs TikTok copycat
Facebook has quite a history of copying other apps to take them down. They launched Lasso back in 2018 to try to topple TikTok. You've probably never heard of this app as it was a total flop, but Facebook is now throwing all its energy to focus on Instagram Reels, another attempt to take down TikTok. They are currently testing it in Brazil, France, and Germany.
Although Facebook was able to take down Snapchat quite effectively with the launch of Instagram Stories, it has tried unsuccessfully to take down Pinterest with copycat apps in the past.
