How the Trump administration could ābanā TikTok
Adi Robertson writes that āItās harder than they make it soundā. This would be an unprecedented move and involve censorship on a scale that we've never seen in the United States.
The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) opened up an investigation on TikTok last year. Robertson writes āIf CFIUS decides Chinese ownership is a problem, the council could cause a lot of trouble for TikTok.ā However, this wouldnāt result in a ābanā, the outcome could be that the council forces ByteDance to sell off TikTok (Musical.ly) conceivably to an American company.
It's possible that the government could add TikTok to a list that forces Apple and Google to remove the app from their app stores, which could be devastating to the app. Currently the conspiracy theories about China spying on America via TikTok are purely speculation and not grounded in actual fact.
