ONE : We made it through another weekend. Deployment weekends are...awful. You'd think they wouldn't matter since our pandemic days all look the same but somehow they are still terrible and I always feel the distance more acutely on Saturday and Sunday. I am so glad we are five days away from the next one. (Also! Today marks six months down! We're doing it.)
TWO : I kept the panic at bay this past weekend by sewing and dyeing a new dress. Also... I figured out what sewing would be like if it really was magic.
THREE : speaking of magic, I switched from pins to fabric clips this summer and they are quite the upgrade. Perfect for thicker fabrics and so much easier to use.
FOUR : and speaking of keeping the panic at bay, I found this "how to vote in the age of Covid" guide from 538 super clear and helpful. For my US readers, just click your state and everything you need to know (with links!) is provided.
FIVE : I have been listening to the Nice White Parents podcast from Serial & the NYT and... damn. I would recommend.
SIX : yesterday I finished The Water Dancer and it was great. I almost never mark in fiction books but I broke out the highlighter often. And how is wonderful is this line? "I was young and love to me was a fuse that was lit, not a garden that was grown." It took me a bit to get into the story but by the middle I couldn't put it down.
SEVEN : other five-star books from the past month (I am reading again!! I could sob with joy!): The Book of Longings, The Song of Achilles and Dear Edward.
EIGHT : speaking of books... I am getting to the end of my Jul2020-Jun2021 Get To Work Book stock. The remaining planners ship free to the US (and reduced international rates) with code SHIPFORFREE.
NINE: what's this? A good idea?!
TEN : my husband Paul sent me an email with things he is looking forward to when he gets home. It's a long list of small good stuff like...roasting coffee and meeting the chickens and making mac & cheese for the girls. It simultaneously makes my heart ache and inspires me. I don't know what goal-setting looks like for the rest of 2020. I don't know what goal-setting will look like in 2021. I don't know how to "plan" for this timeline we are in. But I do believe that a long list of small good stuff is where we start.
