I have to admit, if a book does not grab me in the first couple of sentences I sometime put it down or continue to read with random interest. What about you? One time I was reading a book and three pages in decided it was not worth reading. No it was not a trashy book, it just didn’t speak to me. In fact, not only did it not speak to me I was compelled to throw it away and there it sat in the garbage can. I saw it every time I threw something away. A tiny voice whispered in my ear to pluck it out of the garbage can and give it a second chance. (Insert big sigh here) I pulled it out and washed it off and gave it another halfhearted try. Again I threw it away, this time with more umph! And there it sat in the garbage. The whisper came back! I pulled it out again, did not wash it off since I knew I would be throwing it away again, and sat down to really read. Was there a message for me in the pages? It was not until the very last paragraph that I was suddenly moved with the message. That tiny conclusion still speaks to me today. The message, you wonder? God knows where you are. He is not finished with who you are!
Get out those books you have been meaning to read. Give the pages a chance to speak to you. And if you throw one away, I recommend you setting it beside the garbage can!
