Today I find myself thinking about ethics and why they are important, especially when working as a psychic or psychic/medium. There are psychics and psychic/mediums out there that do not have ethics and take it upon themselves to force their gifts on other people not caring how this could and may affect the other person. Psychics or psychic/mediums that do this are out to feed their ego, they love the “shock” affect it has and peoples reactions such as “how did you know that?” They want to feel “special” as if they have a magical “power” when the truth is there is nothing “special” about what we do for every person is born intuitive and with gifts even if they aren’t aware of their gifts.
John Holland taught me that “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” meaning we need to respect other people’s beliefs and free-will and not force our gifts onto them, even if we are picking up messages. The reason this can be harmful is because the person may not be in a space to receive the message the psychic or psychic/medium wants to deliver to them and can cause them great anxiety or distress. We also should never use our gifts to read people without their permission.
As a psychic/medium I strongly believe in the ethics I was taught and do my best to live up to them daily. If I am somewhere and a spirit comes through, I will tell the spirit they need to make the connection happen, I will not just randomly approach someone. In most if not all cases the connection is always made when the other person is ready to receive.
When clients come to me, I always work in their highest good and in love and light. Being a psychic/medium is not black and white, it is a lot of interpretation for spirit communicates using symbols, feelings, words, and pictures and I need to look at those and ask my guides to help me interpret the meaning. I have had clients come to me because they went to other psychic/mediums who misinterpreted these symbols and frightened them. One example of this is the psychic/medium saw a knife and took that to mean the person was in danger and should be very careful, even went as far as telling her to carry pepper spray and to be especially careful when out at night. When I read the person I too saw a knife, but when I looked closely at the knife I saw it was in fact an athame, which is a ceremonial knife used to cut cords or energy that is no longer serving us or to bring energy in. The message or the meaning of this symbol for this person was to cut the cord of a toxic relationship and that new beginnings were coming, not that she was in danger.
It is easy to misinterpret messages when you do not pay attention to or listen to spirit, guides, or angels. When a psychic or psychic/medium is ego based they tend to believe or behave as if the gift comes from them instead of through them. They do not work out of a place of love and light. So, when shopping for a psychic or psychic/medium ask them what are their ethics? Below are the ethics I live and work by to the best of my ability:
Psychic/Medium Code of Ethics
- I am working to enhance the image of the metaphysical community by living with personal and professional integrity.
- I am treating all persons equally without prejudice or discrimination because of sex, race, ethnic background, color, religious affiliation, or sexual preference.
- I am scrupulously avoiding fraudulent claims, practices, and promises, and I always strive for quality in readings and all metaphysical and spiritual work.
- I am encouraging seekers to accept total responsibility for their lives and the choices they must make in their lives.
- I am honoring others’ points of view, even those that differ from mine.
- I am setting reasonable fees with no hidden costs or surprise fees. I do not keep the client falsely engaged just to increase my fee.
- I am keeping all readings confidential and discreet.
- I am not claiming 100% accuracy, because no one has or is meant to have all the answers all the time. Spirit, God, and/or the Universe has a plan that is not always revealed to us.
- I advise my clients that I am not a licensed therapist, psychiatrist, or medical doctor and therefore do not give diagnosis or psychological counseling.
- I do not counsel that someone is about to die or has a terminal disease even if I feel serious illness may be present.
- I will never force my psychic ability on someone just because I pick something up. Due to people’s free-will I leave it up to Spirit to make the connection if I am supposed to get involved.
- I never try to force clients to accept what I am telling them.
- I keep the clients’ welfare in mind first. In cases where I feel I cannot psychically serve the client; I advise them honestly and either refund their money and refer them to another psychic or psychic/medium.
- Finally, I promise to work conscientiously for the highest and best good of my clients.
