August 2020 | Issue No 3

Hello & welcome to my third newsletter. I'm glad you're here!

As you may know, cooking is one of my greatest passions in life. I grow some of my own produce when possible, but also rely heavily on in-season goods I find at local growers markets here in Albuquerque. These markets are so important to me & for our community so I thought it was fitting to highlight two of my favorites in this newsletter, as August is Local Food Connects Month.

Most Saturday mornings beginning mid-April to early November, you will find me at the Albuquerque Downtown Growers' Market located in Robinson Park on 8th & Central Ave. You can visit the market from 8am to noon, where you'll find New Mexican farmers, artisans, prepared foods & other local businesses.  You may be worried to get out & about in a crowd these days, but you can rest assured that the market is adhering to strict distancing & sanitation guidelines & requiring masks for vendors & patrons. I love to stroll the market early to find the best & freshest goods. I know I'm getting the most nutritious foods while also supporting my local economy. What better way is there to spend a Saturday morning?

On Sundays from May through October, Rail Yards Market is the go-to place for all things local. While this season looks a bit different than normal (hours are 10-1pm instead of 10-2 & they have moved just outside of the historic Blacksmith Shop to the newly renovated Market Plaza at 777 1st St) you'll still feel the same creative energy & soul that is unique to this market in the heart of Albuquerque. The organizers & staff of RYM are following the same safety guidelines as DGM, so you can still enjoy your Sunday morning market experience. Also worth noting is the not-to-be-missed Holiday Market in December, co-presented by RYM & DGM. This is the shopping event of the year & the perfect place to wrap up all of your holiday shopping in one spot, while supporting local & being known as the best gift-giver around.

In order to make healthy, local food an option for everyone at any income level, both markets accept a wide variety of payment options & food assistance programs. You can find more information about these programs on their websites or social media pages.  Images in this newsletter are courtesy of DGM & RYM social media.

Both Albuquerque Downtown Growers' Market & Rail Yards Market continue to offer us ways to support the local economy & get out in the community in safe & productive ways. While our city & the country are still facing challenges unlike any in our past, Albuquerque remains resilient & steadfast in facing these challenging times head-on. The Real Estate market continues to remain strong with limited housing inventory & ample buyers. If you have been considering selling your home, NOW is the time. Contact me if you are thinking of buying or selling. I would be honored to assist you in your journey.
