Howdy :)

What does an average day look like for you?

Wake up early, coffee first. Since 2004, I’ve worked for myself, and now I’m working with seasons, so it changes often.

Lately, it’s been winter here [so] I’ve been painting and working on the computer a lot. Also doing preserves and fermenting with the harvests.

What turning point in your career do you consider your “big break”?

I’m 36 and have changed career paths two times now. I feel like I’ve had few big breaks, but the biggest might have been when CSS got signed with Sub Pop in 2006. We started touring the whole world non-stop. It was such a magical moment—all of our dreams came true.

How has the current COVID-19 situation affected your industry, and your work personally? How have you dealt with it?

I moved out of SĂŁo Paulo and transitioned to the simpler lifestyle in 2017, so it feels I was slowly adapting to a quarantine lifestyle. We did have comeback plans with CSS which fell through.

What does productivity look like to you, and what tips do you have for managing your time?

Productivity, for me, is redeeming the day; feeling dynamic. It’s important to notice the difference between procrastination and insisting on something that’s not right for you.

When working on a new project, how do you overcome self-doubt and fear?

It always comes. When I choose to work on a project, it's because I really want to. So when I’m at it I think, ‘I will give it the best that I can.’ In collaborations in the past, there were favourite ideas of mine that fell through, and I realised, ‘this project didn’t deserve that idea’, and that helped me get through it. Pomodoro is a good way to power through, at least at the beginning phase, which can be the most terrifying.

Do you have any rituals that help with your work or mental health?

I wish I did. I don’t. Taking a shower helps put my ideas in place and the mornings are when I'm the most optimistic.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

I used to refer to this Mark Twain quote when I was 17 living by myself in SĂŁo Paulo, “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”

What is keeping you inspired and sane right now?

Who do you nominate for the next interview? Why?

Lane Marinho, she is a Brazillian creative, artisan/artist living in France. Everything she does is pure beauty. She is a prolific creator who’s always developing. Her references are concise with all that she is. She makes the chicest sandals I’ve ever seen, but now in quarantine, we peek into her creative process. She is in flow with her aesthetic vision, and she, herself, is a part of all this beauty. I adore seeing the world through her eyes on her IG. It brings me joy.

Much love,
Lilith and Arabella
