Dr. Adriana Bankston is the Principal Legislative Analyst at the University of California Office of Federal Government Relations, where she serves as an advocate for UC with Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies. Dr. Bankston also serves as Chief Outreach Officer at the Journal of Science Policy and Governance and earned her PhD in Biochemistry, Cell, and Developmental Biology from Emory.

Working to become anti-racist requires that we research and acknowledge the persistence and gravity of structural racism, including within the sciences. This  month's topic addresses how systemic racism affects children of color in aspects such as disproportionate access to housing, food, and parental insecurity.

A Ballot Measure for Los Angeles County:

Measure J

Invest in community programs and services supporting low-income residents

 

This law would: Mandate that at least 10% of the Los Angeles County’s general funds be appropriated to community programs and alternatives to incarceration (i.e. health services, pretrial non-custody services)
