It's the beginning of another lunar cycle and the first in a string of three Super New Moons over the next few months ending with a total Solar New Moon Eclipse in December. A Super New Moon occurs when the moon is closer to the Earth. Although it's not visible, it magnifies in intensity and effect. Not only will be feeling the energetic vibrations of these New Moons more than usual, but this string of Super New Moons leading to an Eclipse is significant of a major paradigm shift. But we already knew that because this entire year has been an initiation with major shifts, right?
Pay attention. The Super New Moon in Virgo is speaking. Virgo, ruled by planet of communication Mercury, is represented by the virgin and is the detail-oriented sign of selfless service. I love me some fire signs because they have a fiery get-shit-done attitude, but Virgos are the same way in a more grounded, Earth sign type of way. This knowledge of how Virgo works (and it's downfalls) is going to help us understand how to stay above the frantic energy that's beaming throughout the world right now. Not to mention the energy that's impacting us from the five planets in retrograde right now. (Glow Getters and Master Manifestors, check out the detailed post I wrote about we can make the most of our healing with the energy of each retrograding planet.)
Let's get into it and how we can best navigate all of this cosmic energy for healing, mind, body, soul self-care, and divine alignment.
DO reject overwhelm and focus on going and growing through it.
I can feel you squinting your eyes at me, but hear me out. Even though there's a global pandemic keeping us in lockdown, an emerging civil war for the maltreatment and murder of Black bodies, American (and global) politics feel more and more like a Saturday Night Live sketch, and California is up in smoke and flames…oh, and everything going on in our individual lives as we live through all of this…there is a spiritual significance to the chaos.
I'm not at all trying to cover everything up with some sage and palo santo and tell you that everything happens for a reason – I know some healers that do that bullshit on the regular, but I certainly do not. But this season begs you to look at the bigger picture.
This Super New Moon in Virgo asks us to stand in our power and refuse the energetic invitation to feel defeated. If you know me, you know that I am always advocating for the normalities of our humanity, but I balance that by reminding us that we house so much divinity at our core. It's possible to feel the helplessness that comes with not being able to fix everything going on around us and still buckle down and play our part. The Universe isn't only supporting us in taking action but pushing us to.
The first half of the year was all about dismantling the structures that weren't in alignment with our greatest good, and learning what our individual roles are in our own evolution and that of the world. This last half of 2020 is about putting what we've learned from loss and deep examination into action. Feel what you feel and pray and intend for a clear future, but this is a time to focus less on what we don't want and instead be clear about what we do want and take practical action.
Look around you and take account of everything that is presenting a problem. Look at your health and wellness, your relationships, your career, and your environments to name a few. Flip your mindset of overwhelm into a mindset of abundance. To start, write down what you want in each of these areas of your life by the end of the year. Then break those goals down into monthly tasks, break those tasks down into weekly tasks, and break those down into daily tasks.
As a reminder from September's oracle scopes, it doesn't have to be complicated. Be mindful of your actions and reactions. Flow with Virgo and simplify your outlook. You can look at the bigger picture while still focusing on the details. After all, you yourself are a crucial energetic detail in this big picture of life. Playing your part has never been so important.
DON'T be aggressive. Lead with love.
When a planet is in retrograde, it just means that whatever that planet rules will slow down for a bit, forcing us to slow down and reexamine, recalibrate, and rethink things in that area. Of the five planets that are in retrograde, Mars retrograde in Aries feels the strongest because it's the planet of action, energy, and motivation slowing down in the fire sign of action, passion, and courage. Not to mention that it's retrograding during Virgo season which pushes us to organize and be productive. On my worst days, the puts me in the middle of a million projects I want to complete with none of the energy necessary to run through them. So I turn to self-care in order not to internalize the feelings brought on by Mars' intensity.
It's important to dedicate a few minutes a day to collect yourself in a mindful moment. This type of self-care can look many different ways, but if you want to honor Virgo's earth energy, get out into nature or spend time a few moments surrounded by your favorite plants at home. Local parks have been my saving grace all summer, but especially now as external temperatures are dropping and internal temperatures can reach a fever pitch. Give yourself some time as soon as you wake up if you can. Just don't get caught slipping into tenseness, anger, frustration, and anxiety, especially when it comes to how you want to take action.
Again, this is a time to focus less on what we don't want and instead be clear about what we do want. In a time when there's so much frenzy, outrage, uncertainty, and just straight up noise polluting every cavity of our lives, we have to check ourselves — what kind of energy am I breathing into my life and the world?
I hope these cosmic remarks serve as a reminder on your best and worst days these next few weeks. If you have a question or comment, send me a note, but know that I am beaming you healing energy with this email and beyond.
