Since Renewable Energy is being highlighted this month, how is the largest single rooftop solar panel array in downtown Denver doing nearly a year after installation was completed? The Auraria Campus Library rooftop solar panels have generated 887 Megawatt hours of electricity since the start of 2020, which is enough to power 72 homes for a year.

Thank you so much to AHEC staff and all of the volunteers that came out to our Litter Cleanup event on September 16th! We collected 45 pounds of trash on the Auraria Campus in two hours. The most common items found were cigarette butts (over 300!), fast food wrappers, and plastic bags.

The ASCP has been working hard to compile a list of information relating to Environmental Justice issues in Colorado and the organizations working to address these issues in frontline communities. From here on out we will be providing ways for our followers to learn more about these issues. October's Sustainability Hero Spotlight shines some light on the behind-the-scenes work being done by the Auraria Higher Education Center’s (AHEC) Facilities and Trades teams to improve energy and water efficiency across campus. AHEC oversees maintenance and operations for all buildings shared by the three academic institutions on campus (think Custodial Operations, Grounds, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, etc.). This summer, the Trades Team at AHEC took advantage of a quieter campus and worked together to upgrade campus water heaters on the Administration Building and proactively identified a prime opportunity to upgrade to high efficiency lighting fixtures in the Arts Building corridors! Meanwhile, the AHEC Grounds Team stepped up to meet challenges posed by COVID-19 and an aging irrigation system.

Get excited to shop, save money, get rid of old clothes, get a fresh look, and for no additional carbon footprint on our environment with chemicals leaking not the waters from clothing production, emissions from transportation of goods, unfair labor costs and unsafe working conditions, and less waste in a landfill! all in all, a lot of great things!
