Take a goooood deeeeep breath and welcome the Full Moon in Aries, the first of two Full Moons in October. Aries, characterized by its heir of passion, independence, and can-do, should-do, will-do attitude, brings a different flavor to this Full Moon, as each zodiac sign does. But besides its natural spice, it's activating its ruling planet, Mars, which we know is in retrograde, affecting all of us in major ways. That is if we're not flowing with its energy.
Let's get into it and how we can best practically navigate all of this cosmic energy for healing, practical mind, body, soul self-care, and divine alignment.
This week's Full Moon is a lot of things. It's the first of two Full Moons, which is very indicative that this month is a time of major, intentional release; it's the annual Harvest Moon, which in the Northern Hemisphere means its the start of Autumn, a time to harvest what we've sown in the past few months; and it's opposing the Sun in Libra, who is very diplomatic, fair-minded, and relationship-driven. During a time where the world is on fire, it can feel insulting that a Full Moon in Aries would come around and drag its fiery energy, but if I'm here for anything, it's to shift your perspective on what these planetary drags really are and how we can use them to our advantage.
Let's break what we should focus on right now.
Reap what you've sown.
This Harvest Moon comes around every year intending to alert us to harvest the crops that farmers plant in the spring. It is directly connected to the New Moon in Aries that perfect on March 24. That New Moon is when we planted the seeds for what we're meant to harvest now.
Even if you don't remember what was happening back in March other than the impending doom of a global pandemic, this Full Moon urges us to take into count the efforts and intentions that we set earlier this year that are bearing fruit…or not. If they're not bearing fruit, it's the ideal time to release the mindsets, behaviors, and mental programs that keep you bound and away from manifesting.
This Full Moon has great healing power as it is in the presence of Chiron, the planet/comet that orbits the sun and is named after the Greek god of healers/teachers. Known as "the wounded healer," Chiron is perfectly named. Its energy represents awakening, which is a necessary reminder during such a destructive time for the world. The Universe and all the planets and energies involved are supporting us in healing through radical awareness. Most of all, the radical awareness of what's happening in our lives and how it was placed there for a metamorphic reason. The awareness that whatever is placed in our path is in perfect alignment with the ways that we need to shift. The awareness that we need to shift to see a different existence.
I was talking to you there, but read that again and have the world in context instead of yourself.
In either extent, this Full Moon is the end of the world as we've known it. Nothing is going to be the same, but we have the power to decide what our new realities look and feel like. Channel Aries' warrior spirit and ride this Chiron wave of healing. Applying radical awareness as we think, act, and speak is key.
But what if you do come across some drama?
It's actually quite likely. I mean, again, look at the state of the world. If you want a real laugh (or cry), watch the United States' presidential debates that aired this week. Everyone's in an uproar. Everyone's pissed because they're terrified. Everyone's terrified because everyone is pissed. 2020 has felt like one never-ending circle of drastic change and suffering.
This Full Moon being active in the same sign as Mars' retrograde can feel like an insult to injury, that's if you don't balance the scales with the Sun in Libra's energy. Aries and Mars are one and the same, all about passion, anger, war, and assertion, but Libra is divinely opposed as a reminder that we don't have to go about our war and assertion alone. Instead of allowing your ego to post up and fight everyone about all of your frustrations, take a deeeeep breath and have radical awareness that whatever is causing this alteration of your emotions is happening for you to see its toxic roots. Always, but especially now, take notice of what's moving and shaking and what needs to be addressed to stabilize it moving forward.
As astrologer Chani Nicholas says, “What we have built, healed, and come into a deeper relationship with over the past 6 months (that relates to the area of our chart that contains Aries) is calling our attention. It wants to be known, integrated, and celebrated.”
All of this guidance on actions and reactions serve as self-care, but I know you're wondering about how you can #selfcare during this transformational and possibly exhausting time.
Well, if you're taking cues from the Full Moon in Aries, its a good time to sit alone, light a candle (hello fire energy), and just write. Write whatever comes to mind, the things you want to let go in this last quarter of 2020, and the lighter reality you envision for 2021. Or channel that energy into doing something that you're passionate about and brings you joy.
If you're taking cues from Libra season, pamper yourself. Dress up for no reason. Light that candle and romance yourself. If you must spend time with others, do so safely, and make sure you're in the company of people who you can build with. Stay away from anything or anyone that challenges how you channel your passion and your prioritization of peace and alignment. You need it more than ever. The world needs it more than ever.
