It's another cosmically serendipitous lunation. This Full Moon in Taurus perfects on Halloween, or Samhain, the Celtic spiritual holiday that once merged with All Souls or All Saints Day to birth our modern day Halloween. It's also perfectly conjunct Uranus, the planet known as the Rebel and Great Awakener, during Scorpio season with Mars and Mercury in retrograde. Woo! Earth, water, fire, and air energies all coming together right as this year is beginning to taper off.
To the unconscious mind, they are all terribly conflicting energies, a reason for fear and loathing, but to the surrendered spirit, the poppin' person with a drive for an aligned mind, body, and soul (that's you), it's a Divine chance to flow with the opportunities to heal, and deal with what these energies are revealing. Let's get into it and how we can best practically navigate all of this cosmic energy for healing, practical mind, body, soul self-care, and divine alignment.
Let's talk facts. This is the second Full Moon in October making it a Blue Moon and a surefire sign indicator that this is a month of release. It's stationed in the sign of Taurus, the earth sign of stability, reliability, and grounded-ness represented by the bull. Taurus knows what it wants, but we also have to acknowledge that the Sun is in Scorpio, the intensely emotional sign of death and rebirth. Conjuct Uranus and occurring all while Mercury and Mars are retrograding, this lunation is surrounding us with energy that feels like it's hitting us where it hurts the most…because it is. What we need to focus on though, is not how painful is to part with the aspect of our lives that are dying, but to embrace the unknown possibilities of the most divine parts of us that are being reborn.
Let's get specific about how we can care for ourselves and our relationships right now.
Let's talk about this death, rebirth, and surrender.
I know these are sensitive times, so allow me to address the topic of death. As we're speaking about cosmic self-care, we're not meant to focus on death as in the transition of someone's soul from their body, but death as in the transition from the the expired version of someone or something to the version of them that is most necessary as the fabric of existence continues to weave. I've mentioned this is in every single newsletter since the end of 2019, but that is the theme of 2020 – lifting the foundations to see what is rotting beneath the surface, scraping up the fragments of what no longer works, and uncomfortably seeding new life.
This, of course, is a major factor of this lunation, one of the last of this year. Scorpio season energy (October 23 to November 22) is pulling us away from the makeshift comfort zones we've managed to create during this ravaged year, and into the unknown and unseeable future. This is evident as hell as the world takes on another wave of COVID-19, and America deals with the election that will change everything, but take a look at your personal life and define what this pull looks like for you.
For me, it's embracing that the old me, as comfortable as she is, is dying to make way for this next version of me. It's embracing that who I'm remembering I am isn't "too much," on the contrary, I am becoming exactly what the world needs as it shifts with me. For you it might mean the pull away from partnerships and habits that no longer serve you on your journey, and the pull towards learning to integrate into a new way of being that may feel too big, too frightening, too soon. Whatever the pressure, it's normal as we wade through Scorpio's mysterious waters.
This Full Moon in the grounded earth sign Taurus, is coming along as an anchor so that we don't drown in the process, however, it's important that we don't fall into being stubborn and possessive about our outcomes. Surrender to change while not focusing on any conclusions. As you spend a quiet moment alone each day – a crucial form of self-care right now – meditate and pray on the intention that everything that is happening for you is occurring in perfect balance with your greatest good. It will be a necessary way to invoke peace, something the Venus-ruled, peace-loving sign Taurus very much wants for us right now.
Let's talk about embracing inevitable change and awakening.
This earthly lunation is activating Uranus, the planet of awakening and rebellion, so again, expect the unexpected, especially as it relates to the material, financial, and environmental aspects of life.
As I'm writing these insights, my heart is feeling heavy because to the reader who lacks awareness, all of this might feel like bad news. Please understand that none of this is easier on anyone – we've all had a terribly difficult year – but not all difficult transitions are bad.
In case you didn't read that with enough conviction the first time…NOT ALL TRANSITIONS ARE BAD.
Is the overall energy tumultuous? Absolutely. But all of these cosmic aspects, the Moon in Taurus activating Uranus included, are giving us an opportunity to embrace awareness and surrender as necessary on any wellness journey. Keep doing the work internally and externally, focus on the small intentional moves you can make day-to-day, and hone in on staying grounded while the inevitable is brought to light. I'm not here to sugarcoat or lie, so no, it's going to be extremely difficult to release what we want right now, but have faith that what's on the cusp of being brought to light is what we really need freedom from. Sit and hold yourself in any moment where you feel overcome by emotion. These are necessary forms of freedom too.
Caring for our mind, body, and spirit right now.
As mentioned, silent solitude should be prioritized right now. That can be very difficult in a home with many people or even if you're living alone accompanied by mental health disorders that won't quit. Even so, find a space that serves as a moment for you to hear nothing but the sound of your own breath. In a connected world where everything is constantly speaking at you, make it a point to disconnect from anything and everything that impedes this fundamental moment of self-care.
Don't overlook that our bodies are also part of nature, and because of it, naturally in flow with the phases of the seasons and the planets. Hone in on Taurian ways to care for yourself by focusing on comforting your human vessel with earth in as many ways as you can. Sit or go for a walk outside being intentional about noticing the beauty in everything in your path; honor water-sign Scorpio and take Epsom salt baths at home for cleansing and auric protection; and, one of my favorite ways to ground during the colder months, eat root vegetables. Pumpkin, squash, potatoes, yams, beets, carrots, anything that grows from the ground galore. Taurus Moon energy craves balance of the physical. Listen to your body and it will tell you what it needs.
As for our spirits…man…this is a special time for our souls. Besides the inevitable breaking open that is happening, the end of October and beginning of November are highlighting spiritual holidays that honor the breaking open of spiritual realms. Even if you don't subscribe to Samhain, All Saints or All Souls Day, or Halloween, you can't honestly say that the air doesn't feel different. The veils between the earth and the spirit world are its thinnest right now, so do the most for your souls right now.
Honor those that have passed sharing food, memories, and intentional moments; give yourself enough time to rest and pay attention to your dreams as our angels, ancestors, and spirit guides can use this time to share messages with us as we sleep; and most of all, be extra ceremonial about your gratitude in acknowledging your soul's position in this lifetime. Our soul chose our body to be here right now. To learn, to excel, to master the lessons that will bring us to ultimate growth.
As astrologer Chani Nicholas said, “So much of our purpose is revealed to us inside of paradigms that know that all of life is a cycle and that we are an important part of its cycle.” So much has gone, but so much wonderful unknown is yet to come. We are the only thing that stands between where we are now and where we're going. Stay grounded. Stay intentional.
