Queue the pomp and circumstance! We made it to the last few days and the last Full Moon of 2020!

But hold up…because before we pop the bubbly in our best satin pajamas on December 31st (yup, those are my plans too!), this Full Moon has clear plans for us and it involves completion, but not particularly celebration.

Make way for 2020's second Full Moon in Cancer. In true full circle, Universal fashion, we started 2020 with one, and we're ending what's been an apocalyptic year with one too. Cancer is ruled by the moon, so it's home in all of its empathic, emotional, and imaginative glory. Opposing the Moon is the Sun in Capricorn – Capricorn Suns, it's yo' season! Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by Saturn, and there's a reason why they're represented by the determined AF mountain goat. Cap governs time, responsibility, strict rules, hierarchies, traditions, and has a true get-things-done attitude. Other cosmic players that are critically shifting our energy are Chiron in Aries, and Venus which is conjoining the South Node in Sagittarius.

We already know that Full Moon periods are generally for releasing and surrendering to divine order, but being the last major lunation of the year, the Universe is focusing all of Its energy on actively unpacking before the Sun rises in 2021. Let's get into it and how we can best navigate all of this cosmic energy for healing, practical mind, body, soul self-care, and divine alignment.

Let's talk about the messages to be received and opportunities at hand.

I am technically a Gemini because I was born under a Gemini Sun, but I am a Cancer Moon, Cancer Rising, so the symptoms brought on by a Full Moon in Cancer are just magnified normal for me, okay?

In all seriousness, Cancer is all about emotion, empathy, home, family, motherhood and childhood. Everything about this energy is nostalgic and longing to feel mothered, nurtured from all angles. So if you've been feeling a little off, or frankly, the urge to cry, allow me to remind you that you are soul energy manifesting through a human body, feeling the waves of Universal movement and reacting as a product of it. As uncomfortable as it might be to end the year with so much on our hearts, minds, and spirits, the Full Moon in Cancer is asking us to bear witness to all of our emotions right now.

Emotions are just that, energy in motion. Take the energy moving to the surface of your consciousness as a signal for parts of your programming that need to be addressed. In keeping with techy analogies, internal programming can only exist if the infrastructure supports it. So if you're dealing with something that's living rent free in your mind or taking all of your power to fully digest, ask yourself:

What things, people, and situations are causing a rise of emotion in me? What parts of me are supporting relationships and narratives that do not serve my highest existence? Why am I giving away my power in this way?

Being entirely fatigued and days away from what we hope is a new year with a fresh start, deep reflection is probably not at the top of your list. I don't want to be prescriptive, but right now it's super important that we look at all that's transpired in 2020, the changes it's made in the world and within us, and what's left to be shifted before the year turns.

Think of the person you're intending to blossom into, then take inventory of the things in your life that aren't at home in that version of your life. Release fear of the unknown and know that now more than ever, you're fully supported in unbinding yourself from what isn't meant to go where you're going. Flow with these Cancerian waves and have empathy, not only for yourself as you navigate, but for others as we're all navigating the same obscure waters of change. As astrologer Chani Nicholas so simply put it, “2020 may have been the beginning of a new decade, but it was always about endings.”

Let's talk about going forward with caution.

Now when you think about, all this release energy is perfect before the start of a new year, but we have to take heed of the cosmic signals that offer us an opportunity to be extra intentional about our actions, reactions, and interactions. Basically, we gotta get right before we get left, and protect our necks on these energetic streets.

The Full Moon in Cancer and the Sun in Capricorn are squaring Chiron, the planet/comet that orbits the sun, named “the wounded healer” after the Greek god of healers/teachers. Its energy represents awakening, but all great spiritual guides will tell you that divine awakening does not happen without being aggressively shaken out of a deep sleep. Chiron being active here in the fire sign Aries resides in aggression, creating the perfect recipe for deep pain to come into bitter focus. All the while, everything is very loud and poking us where it hurts the most.

The Sun in Capricorn is loud about the personal standards we feel like we have to hold ourselves to, taunting us about all the things we didn't do and the time and energy we wasted this year. The Cancer Moon is loud about how insignificant we feel, how much we long to love and be loved like we really matter. And on top of it all, planet of communication Mercury is in Capricorn too, making all of these feelings extremely difficult to verbalize.

To go forward with caution under these energies means to unrestrictedly hold yourself in these feelings without falling victim to tantrums. Our minds and bodies can and will tell us that we have to scream louder and stomp harder to be acknowledged, especially after having survived a year where we had to do just that in all respects, but know that this reaction is rooted in lack – a narrative not supported by our highest and greatest good. If worse comes to worst, affirm the following:

I am not a binary being. I was created by a multidimensional creator of reality to be a multidimensional creator of reality. Because I am the Universe manifesting in a human body living within an infinite Universe, I am abundant in opportunities and choices to exist. I can feel sadness and joy at the same time and I can move into alignment in complete stillness. I am not a binary being. I am a Divine being.

Let's talk about self-care.

Self-care is always a thing , but when we reach the holiday and the cusp of one year and the start of another, we see a lot more #selfcare reminders online. More than likely, you're going one of two routes right now – either you're working incessantly into 2021 (like me *sigh*) or you've taken the rest of the year off so you can bask in the splendor of nothingness, or as Italians have coined it, dolce far niente. Either way, your self-care should cater to what your mind, body, and spirit need most right now. Prioritizing silence is key as there is a lot of noise going on around and within us.

Just as Cancer represents emotions, Cancer is the RULER of self-soothing. Naturally, Cancer energy knows just how to hurt, what hurts, and how to heal said hurt. Honor the cozy water sign by taking a bath after you've charged the water with your intentions or spending time near a body of water. Honor Capricorn's earth sign by taking a hike or putting on some headphones while doing a guided meditation in the park. Any way you can get near, eat more, and incorporate more nature in your life right now is essential to grounding during anxious times.

Every zodiac rules a different part of the body. Cancer rules the chest, stomach, and womb, so give yourself grace if you experience a wonky appetite, and tenderness and worse than usual cramping if you have a period with the full moon. Capricorn rules the bones and joints, so until Cap season is over on January 19, make sure to incorporate stretching and intentional resting during this time.

These are the last cosmic insights for 2020, so I want to take the time to thank you for journeying through this crazy year with me and the rest of this membership community. I hope that as a guide, I've offered comfort through connecting our world with the stars, and have reminded you of all the opportunities we're always being afforded to claim our space in this infinite Universe, and see the infinite Universe within us. To an even more expansive 2021 and beyond.

Astrological Notes from the Experts

  • “Let it go. Let the flood gates open. That’s what this Cancer Full Moon whispers to us as we bring to a close the year of 2020.”

“It asks for us to let go of anything we no longer wish to bring with us into this new chapter we are about to begin. It calls for us to let it go, not through struggle or effort but through allowing ourselves to just be.” – Forever Conscious

  • “There is heightened sensitivity and hopefully greater empathy as this Full Moon approaches, with the Capricorn Sun and Cancer Moon squaring Chiron in Aries. Being a renegade and doing your own thing are less important now than thinking of what’s best for all.” – Moon Circles
  • “Things can get chaotic, ungrounded and surprising, so stay open to being shown the Truth. ‘The Truth will set you free, but first it might piss you off.' The meaning of apocalypse is lifting of the veil of illusion – in order to have true freedom we have to be willing to shatter all illusions that keep us boxed in.” – Divine Harmony

  • “Cancer is the sign of home and family, mothers and childhood, the past of our memories and the ancestors who came before us; with the Full Moon in Cancer this week, we become even more in touch with our yearning for those deep and lasting heart connections.”

“Our digestion may be less than robust with this Full Moon. Cancer rules the stomach – symbolically, our ability to "digest" life experience. When we feel deep emotions, it is common not to feel like eating, or to have the food we eat sit like lead in our stomachs. Be especially gentle with your body this week. Eat lightly if your stomach is upset, and sip fluids that are both nourishing and nurturing” – NorthPoint Journal

If your birthday is this week…

“This year, you feel especially eager to share your ideas and learnings with others, perhaps in a teaching or speaking situation. By focusing on expressing your truth, you can become the leader you were meant to be and also heal residual insecurities. As you take new risks and are willing to be the change you want to see in the world, you gain greater confidence and self-esteem.”

Wishing you the most joyful solar return!
