Hi! I'm happy to bring you an e-newsletter and I love this format of sharing “three bits of inspiration” on a topic. Today it's all about Van Gogh. I never tire of Vincent. When looking at his work I always learn something new, discover a fresh way of seeing the world and think about art and life in a new way. He was in the zeitgeist for me this week and I'm delighted to share three ways Van Gogh inspired me of late. Then read on for info about upcoming workshops, a few newsy links and a new art quilt collage. Cheers,

  1. Blue Grasses I went to see an exhibition of Van Gogh and David Hockey landscape paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. It was amazing! I'm obsessed with one tiny detail – the line of brush strokes suggesting blue grasses between the trees in Field with Irises Near Arles. If you see thin strips of blue fabric in a future art quilt collage, you'll know why.
  2. Jo I loved this NYT article about Vincent's sister-in-law Jo. She believed in his genius and worked tirelessly to have it recognized – as a single mother with no expertise in art. Thank you, Jo.
  3. Potatoes The Art Assignment YouTube channel has a wonderful series of videos about cooking and this one explores foods related to Van Gogh's life and art. Learning about The Potato Eaters along with a recipe for potatoes is so wacky and fun.

Big News! This Quilters Affair is virtual and anyone can register. I'm teaching three classes with pre-recorded demos where you'll get to see my whole process from start to finish. Plus I'm including lots of extra details, inspiring examples and ideas about the creative process. We'll also have a live Zoom session with time for Q&A, conversation, feedback and collaborative development. Any questions at all?! Email me.

Hillside Woods, 40x40"

Even though spring has arrived here in Texas, I'm still in love with the autumn colors in this new art quilt collage. It was fun to add hand stitched details and tons of orange free motion quilting. This is another in my series of tree-line quilts – which were inspired by the trees I saw in the countryside outside of Amersterdam… where we also visited the Van Gogh Museum.

Thanks so much for reading! Have a fabulous day!
