Welcome to the New Moon in Capricorn!

Hello dear First name / one,

As you probably well know, a new moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle and tonight brings our first lunation of 2021 with a new moon in 23° Capricorn at 9pm PST. When we attune to the natural rhythms and cycles in our environment, we embrace a certain harmony. In the northern hemisphere, winter has set its hold for now. The ground is hard and in some places covered in a layer of snow or ice. The air is colder. Plants are dormant and animals have changed their habits or retreated completely to a state of rest. We are invited to be introspective as well, to integrate the lessons of the last year. Even when we see nothing moving across the landscape, mutation is happening beneath the surface that becomes a pressure to break into new life in the spring.

After the watery and emotional full moon at the end of December, we have had a couple weeks of charged energy. Personally, I do not make New Year Resolutions, nor do I fully subscribe to January 1st as the start of my “new year.” I believe that the transition from season to season is as important as the pinnacle of a season itself, and therefore I embrace the process of mutation from one year to the next.

So I want to ask you, what are you doing to embrace the transition? Are you doing your bookkeeping? Cleaning out your closet?
Maybe you're experimenting with a journaling practice or meditation?

In the past two weeks, I have relished my time in the wet woods, cleared off and rearranged my altar, and given myself one day to do only one thing—in an effort to practice extreme simplicity. (That one thing was making a day trip for a new addition coming in February…)

Capricorn energy is some of my favorite to work with and be around. Wildly creative, future-oriented, and hard-working, I don’t know how they get their reputation for being traditional, but I find Capricorns generally to be anything but.

I mean, David Bowie was a Cap for goodness sake! P.S. Have you listened to Life on Mars recently?

In exaltation, this new moon can offer us a progressive perspective that is also grounded in the reality of the work that must be done to achieve our lofty new goals. However, it also has several notable aspects to other planets and without wasting valuable inbox space, perhaps the best way to sum it all up is to keep your eyes open for the next couple weeks. This is not necessarily a call to action but an advisory for awareness. Widen your periphery, and allow yourself time to digest before investing in something emotionally or energetically. Most of all, this new moon in Capricorn is conjunct Pluto. While this is favorable to profound transformations on a soul level, it would serve us to be mindful of excessive or obsessive behaviors, paranoia, and emotional intensity. Although a new moon is generally a great time to start a new project, I would invite you to make sure your proverbial—or literal—desk is cleared before jumping into a new endeavor. Any cycles left incomplete will affect the future, and on a collective level we have a lot of housekeeping to do this year. (Major Gate 42 vibes, IYKY)

In Human Design terms, the “new year” doesn’t start until the sun moves into Gate 41 which will occur on January 22 this year. The sun is currently in Gate 61—Inner Truth and the gate of mystery. For the next four days, we are being asked to get quiet and to enjoy the unraveling of the mystery that leads us to an absolute recognition of universal principles.
