Hello dear First name / one,
As you probably well know, a new moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle and tonight brings our first lunation of 2021 with a new moon in 23° Capricorn at 9pm PST. When we attune to the natural rhythms and cycles in our environment, we embrace a certain harmony. In the northern hemisphere, winter has set its hold for now. The ground is hard and in some places covered in a layer of snow or ice. The air is colder. Plants are dormant and animals have changed their habits or retreated completely to a state of rest. We are invited to be introspective as well, to integrate the lessons of the last year. Even when we see nothing moving across the landscape, mutation is happening beneath the surface that becomes a pressure to break into new life in the spring.
After the watery and emotional full moon at the end of December, we have had a couple weeks of charged energy. Personally, I do not make New Year Resolutions, nor do I fully subscribe to January 1st as the start of my “new year.” I believe that the transition from season to season is as important as the pinnacle of a season itself, and therefore I embrace the process of mutation from one year to the next.
So I want to ask you, what are you doing to embrace the transition? Are you doing your bookkeeping? Cleaning out your closet?
Maybe you're experimenting with a journaling practice or meditation?
In the past two weeks, I have relished my time in the wet woods, cleared off and rearranged my altar, and given myself one day to do only one thing—in an effort to practice extreme simplicity. (That one thing was making a day trip for a new addition coming in February…)
