Hey there!

Do you want to elevate your musicianship skills so you can excel in every audition?

Let's do it!

Hey there, friend!

If you're in the musical theatre biz (or trying to be) and need a little help with those key signatures, tricky Sondheim rhythms, or looking for some helpful sight reading hacks - this is the class for you!

I'm a firm believer that actors who have a working knowledge of music theory have a HUGE leg up in the industry. After all, when the next Lin Manuel Miranda decides to write his show exclusively in 12/8 time and in gb minor, and there's no cast recording, he's going to be looking for someone who knows what the heck they're doing.  And then BAM, there's your Tony.

Music theory can be daunting and complicated but it doesn't have to be! As a classically trained musician and adjunct professor at American University, I use my musicianship skills every day to advance my performing career. I would love to share with you my helpful how-to's, quick reference guides and teach you the basics of what an actor needs to know to deliver a dramatically nuanced performance. After all, we can learn a lot about what's going on with a character when they suddenly change keys, tempo, or dynamics. (think about all of those musical shifts in “The Wizard and I" - Elphaba has A LOT going on in there)

So here's what you'll get…

  • 4 live classes on Zoom (sweatpants, tea and pets are strongly encouraged)
  • Access to recordings, online tools, blogs posts, worksheets, readings, etc to reinforce and revisit (before auditions perhaps?!)
  • Skills to give you an edge (never underestimate the power of sight reading)

Register for all four classes or contact me if you're looking for private lessons for specifics skill or more advanced theory.

CLASS ONE: Key Signatures and the Circle of Fifths

CLASS TWO: Rhythms: Rests, Dots and Ties

CLASS THREE: Meter: Simple, Compound and Odd

CLASS FOUR: Interval Recognition and Sight Singing

**a basic knowledge of treble clef is recommended for this course**
