Hey there, First name / friend!
I’m re-reading David Whyte’s The Three Marriages, and as these kismet things tend to happen, the night before sitting down to write this newsletter, I read over a portion where he emphasizes the importance of finding and living your own questions as a part of the path towards self-knowledge and discovering your true self. He shares that in his mid-thirties he had an experience of looking at his self-reflection in the mirror and questions came to him, and yet he realized these were questions that had been imposed upon him, or perhaps even innocently enough that he inherited. But the desire persisted to uncover an inner question that propelled him forward and lit his path as he ventured into the unknown territory of adulthood and living a purpose-filled life.
While I read this, I couldn’t help but think about a parallel between living your question, as Whyte emphasizes, and Owning Your Why, the philosophy we adhere to and actively practice at Team MG.
As business owners, we are faced with a multitude of questions daily, and I wonder how many of them have been imposed upon us. How many did we inherit, and which aren’t ours to pursue further?
Here are some that come to mind:
- How do we increase our conversion rate?
- What KPIs should I be targeting and optimizing for?
- Which launch formula will prove most effective in selling my offering?
And yet each of these feels like it markedly misses a core component — our sense of connection and being of service to our customers.
I recognize that we all must start somewhere. And when you are first building your business there are so many things to consider that having some outside support or external structure can be quite helpful. But it does beg the question that if we are to step into this new era of doing business, one in which explores and uplifts anti-capitalistic practices, then how can we find new ways of operating outside these antiquated questions?
If you are here with the fellow high-conscious entrepreneurs, then I invite you to explore what new questions you might infuse into the heart of your business.
Here at Team MG, we’ve recently begun a practice of checking in with our core values in conjunction with our capacity to calibrate where we need to shift. Each week starts with a review from the week prior as we examine how we were living into each of our core values: Radical Generosity, Kindness, Inquiry, and Impact. We examine our client interactions and open ourselves up to see potential possibilities for where we can live into our values more directly.
We ask questions like:
- What opportunities are available to us to be more radically generous?
- Where did we fall short on living our values, and how do we intend to begin the process of repair?
- How can we be more kind in our client interactions, both to our clients and ourselves?
We started asking these questions last fall, and you are finally starting to see the manifestations from those responses.
We’ve begun two new series over on the blog (both of which you may peruse below).
One is our Client Spotlight series. We have the enormous privilege of working with some of the most talented and inspiring people I know. In an effort to more adequately spread the love and showcase their brilliance to our corner of the world, we wanted to begin this Client Spotlight series — the second edition was released earlier this week.
The second is our Reclaiming Marketing series, and the first installment was published last week. In this series, we aim to push the boundaries of what feels radically generous by offering practical support from a mindful marketing lens with robust resources — all for free. This also meant a revamp of the Newsletter Resources page that you already have access to. Instead of an archive of past issues with recordings and inquiry questions (all of those are still there!) we plan to add all of the resources from this Reclaiming Marketing series, too. Feel free to read the blog or head on over to the Newsletter Resources to download the workbook. We’ll slowly be adding to the library, and simply by being a part of this newsletter community, you have access to all of the newness we add there.
And lastly, we have the MG Salons! We recently held the very first one, and y’all — it was nothing short of magical. We wanted to find a way to bring people together for an intimate conversation, as well as low pressure, intentional connection. If I do say so myself, I think we nailed it! We’ll be hosting these monthly, and in order to keep the group small and purposeful, we’re curating the guest list each time. If you’re curious to learn more, scroll down, or go ahead and get yourself on the waitlist. The March invites will be sent in a couple of days!
Asking the right questions has created some incredible shifts in my own business, and I believe they can create beautiful change in yours as well! The right questions can draw us closer to our purpose, our people, and our most aligned business methods.
As only feels appropriate, I’ll leave you with some additional questions to ponder:
- How are you embodying your values in your offerings and marketing practices?
- How can you bring more of what you value into your interactions?
- What additions (services, team members, clients, etc.) would feel most spacious and aligned in your business?
From one curious questioner to the other,
M.

However, if you feel like there is something in here that someone you know might benefit from, I encourage you to forward it to them. And, thank you!
