SORRY, NOT SORRY
Women often apologize more than is necessary, especially in the workplace. When it's not owning up to your mistake, over-apologizing weakens your relationships.
Here's what you can say instead:
DON'T say: “Sorry for messing that up.”
DO say: “Thanks for flagging this for me. I'll get up to speed on that."
DON'T say: “So sorry to bug you…”
DO say: “Is now a good time for a quick question?”
DON'T: apologize to empathize.
DO say: “I hear you. That's very frustrating.”
DON'T say: “Sorry, I'm not sure if this makes sense, but…”
DO say: “In my opinion…”
Women have every right to be confident in their capabilities. If you're in the room, you're qualified. Never forget that!
