In her new book The Reset, Financial Times columnist and best-selling author Elizabeth Uviebinené draws our attention to 15-minute city living.

 “What even is that?”, you ask. 

Luckily, she wrote a summary article on these purposefully designed neighbourhoods for better working and living.  Since the pandemic, people have become more connected to their local communities & making much fewer unnecessary journeys (& commutes!). Of course, things are tricky if you are tethered to a clinical setting. However, the pandemic has shown us that flexible solutions for our working lives may be more plausible than we once thought.

Some roles that caught our eye this week!

• Medspace is a Clinical Research Organisation offering unique opportunities in drug and medical device development. They are looking for an entry level Clinical Research Associate & Training and Development Manager to help with initiation of clinical studies.

• Leeds School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is a renowned institution with a strong track record in high quality research and programs related to Tropical Medicine. Two interesting roles they are hiring for are a Medical Statistician and Occupational Health Advisor.

• This Research Engagement Manager role at Cancer Research UK sounds pretty exciting. You would be working with many stakeholders to deliver high-impact content and experiences to connect the wider public to their life-saving research.

• If you have experience in fundraising and business development, have a look at this Fundraising Development Lead at the Tony Blair Institute. Though based in the UK, there is real international impact.

Are you interested in politics, communication and society?

• There is currently an exciting opportunity to lead and develop committee outcomes at the BMA through the role as Head of Committee Secretariat. It’s perfect for those skilled in grasping concepts quickly, communicating clearly and with a good understanding of the issues facing the medical profession.

• Alternatively, if a route into policy and governance is more appealing to you, the BMA have another opening for a Policy Advice and Support Officer – and btw, prior policy experience is not required! 

• If you missed out on the amazing communications role last week at The Kings Fund, then you’re in luck! This week they are hiring a Communications Assistant. This is the perfect role for those wanting to gain a wide range of experience within this well-respected organisation.

• This week the Department of Health and Social Care has an opportunity to be involved in the processing the Test and Trace data. Check out their opening for Demand and Project Support personnel.

• Are you more interested in overseeing the UK's medical supply chain? If so, apply for this Medicines Supply Team Support Officer role also at the Department of Health and Social Care. 

Want to draw upon your Clinical Experience?

• Thriva have released two jobs for doctors who have completed their foundation training: 
• They are hiring a Clinical Operations Associate- a great first step towards a non-clinical career drawing upon your clinical experience in healthcare. 
• For those looking to work more flexibility, have an opening for a Clinical Operations Manager. And yes, there is a job share option…meaning you can work anywhere from 2 days a week to 5 days a week. 

• For those of you without a medical degree,  Thriva also have a Product Manager role.

• Gilead Science is looking for a Country Medical Lead. The company is helping to change the paradigm of cancer treatments, and this leading role involves developing their medical affairs strategy and campaigns for Cell Therapy products.

• Proclinical Staffing is an Agency working with leading pharmaceutical companies and they are looking to hire a Medical Lead (Rare Diseases) and a Medical Advisor to work with them and their clients.

Is start-up life for you?

• Mindset is an emerging health tech start-up using AI to provide accessible and affordable dementia care. Find out more about their company and this opportunity as a Public Health Researcher.

• Rightangled is an NHS-supported company that offers genetic screening, diagnostic services and connects their specialists with clients. One of their requirements for the Business Development Manager role is that you must be fun to work with. So no pessimists over here!

• Lantum is a start-up transforming how healthcare systems connect with their workforce. They have a great creative opportunity as a Marketing Executive.

• Second Nature is also offering an exciting creative opportunity as a Performance Marketing Manager.  You will be in charge of their marketing campaigns across Facebook, Twitter and Youtube! 

• The most interesting job title of the week goes to Echo. They are looking for a Fulfilment Manager.  This involves streamlining the company’s operations as they aim to simplify pharmacy.

Looking to trade just a few days a month whilst doctoring…

• One or two days a week: Kings Fund Population Health Fellowship. Deadline June 3rd 2021.

• Two days a month: The UK Health Security Agency are looking for 5 Non-Executive Members. Deadline June 7th 2021

• 10 days a year: The Ministry of Defence are looking for 3 Medical Members of the Independent Medical Expert Group. For senior consultants in T&O, ENT or psychiatry only. Deadline June 7th 2021.

• Ad-hoc: The Care Quality Commision (CQC) are looking for Primary Care Specialist Advisors. Perfect for doctors with GP, out of hours & urgent care experience. Deadline June 16th 2021.

• 18 days a year: The Medical Protection Society (MPS) are looking for a Non-Executive Director to join their Board of Directors. The successful applicant will join the medical sub-committee and offer support and challenge to the Executive Team. Deadline May 28th 2021.

There are so many temporary, but valuable roles. This is our favourite:

• We are loving this Policy Fellow role in Healthcare Cyber Security at Imperial College London for one year only. Deadline June 16th 2021.

Clinical Fellow roles in hospitals are in abundance. Here are some we don't come across often:

• Vitreoretinal and Medical Retina Fellow in Opthalmology; Whipps Cross, London.
• Clinical Fellow in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery; Liverpool.
• Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric ENT Surgery; Addenbrooke's, Cambridge.
• Clinical Teaching Fellow (plus a rare Honorary Clinical Lecturer contract) in Diabetes & Endocrinology; Barts Health Trust, London.
• Clinical Research Fellow in Oncology; Christie's Hospital, Manchester.
• International Clinical Research Fellow in Oncology (with research and trial experience in Melanoma disease group); Christies Hospital, Manchester.
• Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatrics (50% clinical, 50% research); Whipps Cross, London
