God decides who is in charge of your nation

“Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.” (Daniel 5:21)

Sometimes this is an uncomfortable thought. We would like to think that, “what we think God thinks.” But, in fact, He doesn’t consult us. Thousands of years of sometimes contradictory human history dance to the deciding of God.

It will come out exactly where He wants it to end. Even when despots reign from time to time. Even when we are surrounded by injustice in nations all over the world. Even when evil doers seem to prosper. “Fret not yourself because of evildoers, and be not envious of the wicked, for the evil man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.” (Psalm 24:19-20)

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.” (Psalm 46:6)

The only kingdom that will not come to an end, is God’s kingdom. As Jewel says to Jill in CS Lewis’ book, The Last Battle, “Nay, sister,” answered Jewel, “all worlds draw to an end, except Aslan’s own country.”
