Hello my dear friend,
There has been something swirling around in my heart for the last couple of weeks. Something that I think you need to hear today. It's simple, but often forgotten.
It is that you matter. Your life has value.
To the girl sitting on the other side of this email with mismatched pajamas just getting out of bed after noon, you matter.
To the girl constantly scrolling through Instagram and feeling defeated that your life doesn't look like everyone else's, you matter.
To the girl who has been sick in bed for days or has been unable to work or go to school due to chronic illness or disability, you matter.
To the mom who wonders if the work you are doing in the home will make a difference, you matter.
To the wife whose marriage has abruptly and horribly ended, you matter.
To the occasional dude whose inbox this lands in, you matter too.
I can make these statements with confidence and truth because even though I don't know you, I do know the heart of the one who created you.
So often, we are quick to assign value based on our performance or the performance of others. At least, I know that I do without realizing it.
But God says that there is value placed on your life because you are sealed with the Blood and Victory of Christ. You were made in His image. Created intentionally; declared God's workmanship. The only performance and actions by which we are defined are the death, resurrection, and salvation of Jesus.
But there is all too often this overarching feeling of never quite doing enough. Striving to do more; to be more.
Don't get me wrong, Scripture tells us that “whatever we do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17). But are we striving for excellence because it is unto the glory of Christ? Or are we trying to be enough? Are we trying to “matter” based on our own definition of the word?
So if you are finding yourself striving today or feeling like your existence doesn't matter, I invite you to pause and rest in the love of the Lord that He has for you.
