Dull, uneven skin tone, patchiness and dark spots are nobody's best friend. But winter is the perfect time to bid them farewell!
Hyperpigmentation comes in a range of forms from sun spots and age freckles to melasma. Another very common form is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by trauma to the skin. Hormonal fluctuations, sun exposure, inflammation, ageing and certain medications can result in an overproduction of melanin (pigment) from melanocytes (pigment producing cells).
So how do we treat it? We’ll often recommend a combination of therapies such as PRP and chemical peels. These two treatments are most effective in brightening and lightening the overall appearance of the skin as they focus on cell turnover.
However all the in-clinic treatments in the world won't mean a thing if your SPF game isn't up to scratch. Our faves contain a blend of antioxidants and UV protective actives to deliver high sun protection whilst nourishing the skin.
Our go-to serums are Simply Brilliant by Cosmedix and Pigment Punch + by Aspect. These products help stop the transfer of melanin and slow down the production of pigment to the skin.
And last but not least; Retinol. It encourages the shedding of dead skin cells to even out skin tone and brighten pigmentation. Our pick? Refine by Cosmedix.
