Dear friends,

Looking for the perfect swim coverup for those trips to the pool or beach this summer? I wrote a post on my website to show you how to create a breezy maxi dress with my Emerald pattern. Finding new ways to sew my patterns is one of the things I love the most, and it makes me so happy to share this fun summer mod with you!

Here are a few of the modifications I made to the pattern, which I've detailed in my post:

Lengthened the hem + added slits to the side seam

Finished the armholes without facings

Added a V-neck in the back (so it's reversible!)

Cut it on-grain rather than on the bias

more Emerald on the blog

I love making the inside of an Emerald just as beautiful as the outside using my favorite finishing techniques: one is a bias-bound (modified Hong Kong) seam finish on the center seams, and the other is my Super Fun Facings trick. Level up your sewing with these tutorials!

By the way, it's easy to access all the blog posts and resources relating to Emerald: just go to my Emerald page (made-by-rae.com/emerald) to find them.

I'd love to see your makes! Use the hashtag #MBRemerald tag @madebyrae when you share your projects.

It's supposed to be perfect swimming weather this weekend, so I'll be traveling to West Michigan with Mr Rae and the kiddos to spend time with my in-laws and swim in their pool (and wear my new Emerald maxi, of course).

I'm currently working on another tutorial (hint: it's for Trillium) that features a new (free!) pattern piece. I'll send an update out to this list so you'll know when it lands.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy sewing,

- Rae
