Hey First name / Friend,

If you follow along on Instagram, then you saw my post sharing a bit of my why behind exercising (plus some pictures of us exploring New River Gorge National Park this past week). As I reflect on that post and the start of a new week, I'm taking a new twist on our weekly emails, and encouraging you to think about the why behind your movement practice.

We can all get caught up in being busy and forget to take time to appreciate life. Over time it can become easy to get out of a habit of moving (going to classes, hiking, etc.), and slowly you forget the importance of your true why.

So this week, I encourage you to pull out your journal and reflect on your why for movement. Ask yourself,

  • What is it that you want in life, and how does being active play a role in that?
  • What empowers & inspires you to come to a class when you’re tired or out of the habit?
  • What is more meaningful to you than the tasks your boss wants you to accomplish or another zoom meeting getting added to your calendar?

For me, it’s spending time with family, hiking & exploring mountains, and playing with my puppies. I let those drive me on the days that I don’t want to workout, and I remember that if I want the ability to hike 9-miles or climb up/down 900 stairs to see an abandoned coal-mining town, then I’ve got to keep my heart + muscles strong, my joints mobile, and my mind calm.

So this week, as your pondering scheduling a class, think about your why and ask yourself what is holding you back from just doing it.

Happy Moving,

Summer

PS. Instead of just highlighting what we’ve got going on at the studio each week, I’m starting a new trend of giving you weekly goals & inspiration that will help your physical and mental health. I would love to know how you feel about these and share your experiences.
