Rest in Jesus

These days seem to be fuller than normal of requests for prayer from friends who are walking in the shadow of death, or family members left behind. Another call came last night of a long term friend who went to be with Jesus.

After the call, Patti and I immediately prayed for the rest of the family left behind. Even as his wife immediately acknowledged his now joyous place in the presence of Jesus, she recounted the difficult journey of the last year. Their 52 year old son died of cancer a number of months ago. And, as her husband was walking through the valley of death, her daughter discovers breast cancer.

Death is our gift from Satan and Adam and Eve. Satan hates life in Jesus. He hates to think that those of us who walk in the promises of Jesus receive the greater gift of eternal life. But, unless Jesus returns first, we will all walk through the valley of the shadow of death.

I can find no more comforting words than the invitation from Jesus our lord and savior.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
