What a Week!

If you've been following us on Instagram or Facebook (or at the Taylor Farmers Market) you've probably noticed a few new faces at the ranch.  My son Jordan and his family are here!  Jordan has been working as a machinist in Dallas, but was able to find a better job with more opportunity near-by in Hutto. It didn't take long for Jordan to realized that the housing market around here is nuts, and apartments are hard to come by.  Fortunately we've got a semi-finished apartment upstairs.  When I say semi-finished, I really mean it - It's only half done.  So Jordan and I have been frantically working to turn it into a home so Dannie (wife) and Kira (stepdaughter), could move down here and join him.  With school starting next week we really need to step up our game. Fortunately, Kira (11) has been helping me with the ranch chores, and Dannie has been doing a good job cleaning up after me.

And if that isn't enough, we've received a new batch of turkey poults.  This is our annual batch of Thanksgiving turkeys.  They'll be in the brooder for a few weeks before we move them out on grass.  They'll stay in our mobile chicken tractors until they're old enough to fend for themselves (about 2 months old) at which time they'll free range in our orchard area feasting on grasshoppers and the like.  We will supplement their diet with organic grains, but like all of our meats, the grass adds tremendous depth of flavor to the taste.  Be sure to submit your pre-order for one of our Thanksgiving turkeys. We only have 30 this year, so dont delay!

What's Molly up to?  She's away at a conference!  You may not know this but Molly works for Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance when she's not helping me with Amber Oaks.  FARFA is a national organization that advocates for family farms and you, the consumer.  This week they're holding their annual conference in San Marcos.  She'll be there for three days helping to coordinate all of the events and meeting the needs of the hundreds of participants.  If your going to the conference be sure give her a hug and remind her to breath - she pours everything she's got into these events.
