âEvery cell in your body is eavesdropping on your thoughts.â - Deepak Chopra
According to Lissa Rankin, MD, who runs an integrative medicine practice and is the author of the book Mind Over Medicine, âThe key to remember is how our minds feel as we go about our dayâhow relaxed, happy, and fulfilled we areâgets translated into the physiology of the body.â
That's why she says sometimes healthy people make themselves sick or under perform because of their thoughts and beliefs.
Do you know any of these people?
We can tap into the power of the mind to feel better or worse.
Here is an example I learned from Russell Wilsonâs mental performance coach, Trevor Moawad (who has also done mental coaching for national championship programs like Alabama and Florida State). These story highlights are from a 1978 edition of the magazine Success Unlimited, which featured an article written by Dr. Harold R. McAlindon called, You Can if You Believe You CanâReflections on Human Potential:
- In Russia, a railway employee accidentally locked himself in a refrigerator car and couldnât get out.
- He started writing sentences on the wall of the car as he became colder and his body became numb. He wrote: "Slowly freezing to deathâŚI can hardly writeâŚThese may be my last words.â
- Though he was found dead, the temperature of the car was actually fifty-six degrees because the freezing mechanism was out of order. In reality, there was no physical reason for his death.
- The employee was the victim of deception created in his mindâhis mind told his body that he was freezing to death, and his mind won.
- Our minds are powerful and capable of creating the future. Never underestimate the power of your mind.
Are your thoughts hurting or helping you perform as your best self?
