Hi friend,
I got the most amazing email in response to last week's Body Liberation Guide, from a pair of siblings in their teens who are listening, absorbing and even starting to stretch their wings in body acceptance advocacy.
It was such a delight both to hear from them and to know that younger people are questioning and learning about bodies and oppression and body image and fatphobia and body freedom!
The kids are okay, y'all.
Speaking of newsletter responses, so many of you came up with wonderful things about fat bodies that don't depend on just our ability to give comfort to others. Thank you.
Reader Bee Gee was kind enough to let me share their glorious response as a guest post over on the blog.
In other news, I spent some time last week speaking with a reporter about weight stigma in healthcare. I won't name the media outlet because I don't know yet whether anything I said will be used, but it's a pretty fatphobic site in general, so it's interesting that they want the voices of fat activists.
I know (because the reporter told me) that the piece will also contain quotes from bariatric surgeons and others invested in killing fat people for profit, so I waffled about whether I wanted to participate. But I figure that if i can even plant a seed by speaking, it's worth it.
That conversation inspired me to share part of my own experience of weight stigma in healthcare, which you can watch below this letter. (There's a version with captions here.)
One more thing: Due to the rapid rise of the COVID delta variant, I've put my plans to re-open for client photo sessions on hold again. I'd never forgive myself if I were responsible for someone getting sick when I could have prevented it.
If you were interested in a session, stay tuned and I'll let you know as soon as we can resume.

"We understand ultra-thin bodies as the embodiment of the constructs of 'control' and 'willpower' that diet culture sells us. And we understand fat bodies as the exact opposite -- as a manifestation of sloth and gluttony." » Melissa Fabello
