Hello from Montenegro! After wrapping up my retreat in France last week, I boarded a flight to southeastern Europe to spend some time hiking, painting, vacationing, and exploring this gorgeous country. Because I’m immersed in nature this week, the beautiful landscapes from my hikes are the inspiration for this week's #CreateWithCatCoq prompt.

Sometimes my favorite way to capture the vibe of a vast landscape like a lush, textured, mountain range or a large body of water is through abstract art. I love taking something literal and turning it into an abstract interpretation that captures its essence. Here are some examples of abstract art in my portfolio.

#CreateWithCatCoq - Abstract Art

This week, I'd love for you to create an abstract piece and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq. Abstract art is booming in popularity, and it's a fabulous technique for beginners and experienced artists alike.

Abstract art breaks down creative barriers and blocks. There is really no way to get it wrong. It's a fun exercise for following your intuition and letting your creativity run wild.

That said, sometimes it's helpful to have a jumping-off point if you're brand new to abstract art. In this blog post, I walk you through two abstract painting techniques that will help you get comfortable with abstract painting.

Whatever medium you use, this week's challenge is designed to help you open up creatively and explore without constraints. I am so excited to see what you all come up with this week! Don't forget to share your work on Instagram using the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq, and tag me @catcoq so I can see what you make.

Cheers to creative exploration!

Tips for Framing Art Prints for Home Decor:

When I was back in Kansas City in July, I gifted framed art prints to half a dozen friends & family members. Selecting artwork is the fun part, but deciding how to frame prints can easily get overwhelming. I put together this helpful guide to help you navigate the world of frame selection. I always purchase my frames with a pre-cut mats that are already sized to fit my artwork. Not only does this simplify things, but by ordering frames with pre-cut mats, I've eliminated the chance of making a simple measuring mistake.
