A few months ago, frustrated by my ever-increasing MailChimp bill, I went on a hunt for another email marketing service. I was familiar with MailerLite and liked what they offered, but if I was going to bother making a change, I wanted a price that would make me smile. Enter
Flodesk. But it isn't just about money. I also wanted ease of use and great design options. Flodesk, it seemed, delivered my requirements.
Before I paused my MailChimp account, I set-up a trial account with Flodesk. I exported one of my email lists from MailChimp, uploaded it to Flodesk, then I created a subscriber form. A simple process. Then I changed the subscription links on my website. All that took about 20 minutes, the bulk of the time was spent on my website. So far, so good.
The next hurdle, the one I dreaded, was re-creating my automated email sequences. I decided I'd just create one automation to see how it worked. I braced for a hassle, because my experience with automatons on MailChimp have always included hassles, but…there was no hassle with Flodesk. The process was easy, intuitive even. And the design capabilities - templates I could customize - appealed.
Then I hit my first hitch. I have multiple email lists - one for my readers, and one for you, my writers. I'd need two accounts. I did a little quick math and realized that even with two accounts, Flodesk would save me more than $30 per month. And, cue the drumroll… Flodesk's offer, good through November 2, 2021, is for unlimited subscribers for the life of the account. UNLIMITED!
In other words, Flodesk doesn't punish users for adding subscribers, which is what we all need to do.

Use code BETA when you set-up your
Flodesk account
prior to November 2, and you'll receive their $19 per month rate for unlimited subscribers. Nice!
I've now migrated both my lists to Flodesk and I'm very satisfied. See the newsletter (below) I sent out to my list of readers this month to get a stronger sense of the design options Flodesk offers.
So, I've shared all the pros, but there must be a few cons, right? Right. Thus far, Flodesk doesn't offer landing or web pages, I hope those will come, they're still a fairly new company. And while they offer a few integrations, there's room to grow in that area too.
But even with the e-commerce work I do, I'm not missing any of the integrations MailChimp offers. When, and if, I miss them, I'll let you know.
One final word on
Flodesk: they also offer a solid affiliate program. As writers we're entrepreneurs, and as such, affiliations can offer a piece of our income. So, send a newsletter, receive a compliment from someone on your list, point them to Flodesk using your affiliate link, and you may earn a bit of income for your effort.
As always, my guarantee to you is this: I won't recommend anything I'm not using myself and fully believe offers value.
If you're considering migrating your email list to a new server, I've created a checklist of all you'll need to do. It's not as daunting as you may think.
