A Note From Clare
Dear Families,
Snow is falling and winter is knocking on our door. The weeks and months are seeming to fly by and during this time our children are settling into their learning. I have include (below) curriculum maps for each grade level to remind you of the high engagement that is taking place in the classroom.
As a staff we are going to be carving out time to discuss our philosophy at every staff meeting. Between the earthquake and the pandemic, a major focus has been on safety. That focus will continue; however, we will invite alongside other topics that we hope to restore in high importance. Please join us in this refocus. A great starting piece are the skills involved in being an “In-Charge Learner.” Some of the basic pieces that are essential for children to be “in-charge” are well-balanced meals and sleep. Continued support at home around working toward building the whole child is so very helpful in your child's ability to integrate those skills into their school day. Finally, supporting the desire to continually light the fire in their desire to learn. This could look like building in a family reading time, ensuring books are part of a night-time routine, and seeing adults in their life engage in trying new things, wanting to learn, and recovering from mistakes. Feel free to take another look at our school handbook as a refresher and please join us in this refocus for the new year. CHUGACH HANDBOOK.
It is so great to see family groups getting together in new ways. I want to thank our PCs (Parent Coordinators) for their leadership. The school will continue to balance being mindful during this pandemic, while also welcoming volunteers and parents in our building. That balance is intentional and thoughtful. Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate these very historic times.
Finally, on a personal note I wanted to let my community know that I am fostering an amazing two-year old child. I am working toward adoption. Many of you know that I have been on this journey. I want to share it has been such a joy and I appreciate all the support so many of you have given me along the way. I will keep the community posted with how things turn out.
My door is always open; while I am far from perfect, I will commit to continuing to put my best foot forward for the good of our children, families, and staff.
Warm Regards,
Clare
