Welcome to the New Moon in Scorpio!

Hello dear First name / one,

In the northern hemisphere, the leaves have all turned and the chill in the air creeps through the floorboards, even for just the morning or after dusk. The light is more precious and we lift the heavy lids of our (metaphorical) trunks to break out wool sweaters and cozy layers.

When I get up to journal in the mornings now, it is dark and even my dog is still curled up in sleep. I open up the curtains to shades of deep blue and gray. The candle light is definitely not enough to write by no matter how aesthetically pleasing.

There’s something about the solemnity of this season change that makes it easier to take time with the mundane. We take care with our daily routines and make rituals of them. We use a special mug for our morning drink, change the flavors of our meals, add different scents to our spaces with candles, incense and oils; we pay attention to our textures, exchanging light, breezy fabrics for weighted and thick knits.

If you didn’t set an altar last weekend, this week would be the time to do it. We are entering a powerful New Moon in Scorpio, an ideal time for clearing and setting intentions. What narratives/relationships/obligations can you release that are draining you of your power, and in what way will you take it back? If you haven’t had the chance to check out the piece on the Journal about Giving Away Your Power & Reclaiming It, you can read it here.

This New Moon in Scorpio may have us feeling the need to dive deep, like real deep. No more surface level relationships with ourselves, with others, or with the world with which we interact. In opposition to Uranus, this may manifest as emotional tension, impulsiveness and the desire to make radical changes. Remember all of the Uranus transits from the last three New Moons and practice that flexibility you’ve become so good at. Allow yourself the spontaneous and remain open to change.

In Human Design terms, when the new moon is exact at 2:14pm PST it will be in gate 44.6 with the Sun. Gate 44 is the Gate of Alertness and correlates to memory. It says, “This is what has kept me safe, met my needs, and moved me forward.” We are alert to the things that create a pattern for living that proves successful for us. With its expression in line 6, we get the sense of aloofness. Channeled in its higher expression, we are instinctively alert to what ensures our wellbeing as an individual part of a community, but in lower expressions we become arrogant and sit on our high horses above others. The Hexagram for this gate is “Coming to Meet” and it says that “the success of each interaction is based on the absence of preexisting conditions.” Keep your mind and eyes open, your tongue soft, and your actions flexible.

FOR THE BODY

Scorpio rules the genitals, the pubis area, prostate, anus and urethra. Schedule that appointment with your doctor to get your bits checked and get tested for STI's.

â—¦

Patron your favorite local or online sex toy shop and treat yourself to something new. Sex does not have to be with a partner, and learning about your own body
and its needs instills confidence and engenders self-love.

â—¦

If toys aren't your thing, try mirror gazing to take in all the beauty that is your body. Then, with your eyes closed, trace your body with your own fingers and really pay attention to the yummy sensations both from your touch and from feeling your own landscape.

â—¦

Embrace the wateryness of this new moon with a sensual bath. Light a couple red candles and use fresh flowers or essence oils of rose, lilac, violet, and/or vervain.

You have transformed so much over this whole year First name / my dearest, and the next couple months will serve to show you just how much you’ve grown. Give yourself the time over this lunation to pause, to make each movement special, to celebrate your very existence in all its complexity and depth. There will be more on Transforming Routine Into Ritual on the Journal, but if you'd like to be notified by email let me know here!
