Hello Chugach families!
It's only been three months since the school started but the kids have already been up to so much! We your children have enjoyed their first quarter in their family groups and are thriving with the opportunity to be around friends again. The CEC board and I have really enjoyed seeing some of you at the Community Assembly Meetings (CAMs) and at the monthly Coffee gatherings outside the school. If you haven't stopped by for coffee yet, there will be other opportunities as we hope this will continue to be a monthly thing throughout the year.
The CEC board members have been meeting monthly to review budgets, plan the CAMs and work on other CEC-related projects. One such project is an update to the Chugach Handbook. It has been a while since the handbook was updated and much has changed in the world and in school. This is an opportunity remind ourselves of values on which Chugach was build and to examine how we exercise them today. We welcome anyone interested in helping with this project to reach out to the CEC through our CEC email address: email@example.com, and let us know.
Exciting news: the Chugach ice skating rink is coming back! Providing a rink for our students has become a yearly tradition, albeit a costly one. Learning to skate provides skills that our students will carry with them as Alaskans and helps our students foster their determination, self-esteem and more! A LOT of community effort was put in to make our rink happen this year. $4,300 was raised for the maintenance cost for the 2021-22 school year and we are well on our way toward funding next year's rink so we don't have to scramble again in the fall. Thank you for making this happen, Chugach! Edwin at Alpine Services is in the process of creating our ice and we are looking forward to family skate nights and daily use of our beloved rink by mid-December.
Special thanks go out to: Parent Brenda Lester, The Scotty Gomez Foundation, The Anchorage Wolverines, Countless Chuck-a-Puck Volunteers, Northern Energy Services, LLC, The Alaska Community Foundation, and the Ice Rink CommitteeKari Skinner for organizing our Gear Swap.
Finally, please join us on December 15 @ 7 p.m for a special virtual family game night Community Assembly Meeting! Grab an early dinner and join in the fun to see new and familiar faces and enjoy some laughs together.
We hope to see you! Happy holidays to all! We are thankful for this wonderful school community!
December's Community Assembly Meeting will be a chance to come together and enjoy family games! More information will be emailed out prior.
