Recently I had a conversation with my sister about how she worries about everything, and I asked her why? She really couldn’t answer except to say it’s how she is. It made me feel sad for her for when you worry about life you never experience inner peace. It also got me thinking about how I used to be for I was just like my sister, and I worried about everything, money, job, family. I was in a constant state of anxiety and depression and just feeling overwhelmed about life. I was not enjoying life but dreading it.
It wasn’t until I learned that worrying was a choice that I realized I didn't have to do it anymore. I was choosing to worry rather than believing, believing that everything is ok and that I am ok. I was lacking faith, faith in myself and a Higher Power (whatever that means to you.) I know this is easier said than done, but what are things you can do to help yourself worry about things less? You can meditate to help bring yourself back to the present. You can remind yourself about all the times things have worked out for you. You can breathe and remind yourself that you ARE ok and not that you are GOING to be ok.
I am grateful today that I don’t worry about much at all anymore for I know the Universe has a plan and the truth is I have no control over what is happening, but I did have control over how I was reacting to what was happening. I kept repeating the old saying “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you know peace you are living in the present.” I carried this around with me all the time as a reminder to bring myself back to the present.
The reality is we do not have control over the future or what is going on in our world today, but we can have faith that no matter what happens we will get through it, and we are ok. Worrying is choice and today I choose peace. The Universe has never let me down, ever. Things may not have turned out the way I wanted or hoped, but they always turned out to be for the best.
So, what is the key to stop worrying? In my opinion faith. Faith in God, Universe, Source, whatever you call your Higher Power, where there is faith fear cannot survive. So, take a deep breath and remind yourself that all is well, and you are well and keep counting your blessings!
