Thank you for your responses to last week's email in which you shared that you, too, are experiencing empty buckets. Please know that I'm thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way, with hopes of uncovering a bit of extra water soon.
This week, I've been thinking about the idea of what's happening out there versus what's happening over here.
Over here, people are not reduced to the one-dimensional labels and ways of thinking that we read about online, but rather they are expansive, multidimensional human beings.
Over here, there are surprise visits to friends' local businesses and snail mail sent with stamps and love.
Over here, there are moments of shared joy and sadness, and there are hugs.
Over here, there is much that is good.
As always, the practice remains: how can we savor that which is beautiful over here, while staying awake to that which is happening out there?
What is feeling beautiful and inspiring in your world today?
And what practices do you employ that help you hold and honor both what is happening out there and also what is true over here?
If you'd like, drop me a note and let me know.
Thank you, as always, for being here and being part of the Zing Collaborative Community.
I remain infinitely grateful for such incredible humans (each of you) “over here” in my own little corner of the world.
“The results revealed that the more participants strove for excellence, the greater originality and openness to experience they showed. In contrast, the more perfectionist participants were, the fewer original ideas they had and the less open to experience they were. This suggests that an element of flexibility not present in perfectionism can improve our creative thinking."
Related to the above, if you are looking for news that is relatively balanced; calls out absurdity on both sides; and that doesn't make it feel like the world is crashing down before our eyes each day, I continue to recommend Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar. The show isn't perfect, but Krystal and Saagar do a great job of distilling what's going on and providing context.
Thank you, also, to the journalists and folks in media who are members of the Zing Collaborative Community, and who work hard everyday to find the truth and report it.
I appreciate you.

Mindful Giving
It has been said that 5 billion pounds of unwanted gifts end up in the trash heap, according to Optoro, a company that helps retailers manage returns. To avoid our gifts ending up in the trash heap, here are a few possible ideas from Becoming Minimalist.
Do you have any favorite clutter-free, experience-based, or consumable gifts?
GIVING BACK
GIVING OUR TIME, MONEY, & ENERGY IN SERVICE OF POSITIVE CHANGE
If you are considering some holiday giving this season, GiveWell is a helpful tool to use along the way. They focus on overall impact, not just financials, to provide a more comprehensive picture of how much good a particular program accomplishes.

BEAUTY, WISDOM, & INSPIRATION

Percy by Mary Oliver
Our new dog named for the beloved poet,
ate a book which unfortunately we had
left unguarded.
Fortunately it was the Bhagavad Gita,
of which many copies are available.
Every day now, as Percy grows
into the beauty of his life, we touch
his wild, curly head and say,
“Oh wisest of little dogs.”
Thank you, Roger, for bringing this poem into my life and knowing how much I would love it!

What am I currently concerned about “out there?” What is one concrete, tangible thing that I can do about it?
What is one thing I'm currently grateful for “over here?” What could it look like to express my gratitude to someone who is involved?
I am looking forward to sharing a couple of updates with all of you in the upcoming months and will be sharing these updates here first. I can't wait to share more details shortly.
