With the holidays come family gatherings, shopping, baking, cooking, mile-long to-do lists, positive AND negative emotions, and an overwhelming amount of stress. We recognize that the holiday season does not always bring everyone merriment and joy. In this edition, we want to provide some encouragement and advice as to how to handle the negativity you may experience.

When negative feelings arise during the holiday season, we want you to know that you are not alone. You are not alone in feeling overwhelmed, sad, angry, stressed, or any other type of negative emotion. It is okay to say, “no” to the things that will only cause more of these negative emotions because it will ultimately provide you opportunities to say, “yes” to experiences that will recharge you.

There are many therapeutic outlets, beyond therapy, including self-care strategies that may help like:
  • Mediation
  • Exercise
  • Talking to a supportive friend or family member
  • Being with a pet
  • Listening to music
  • Baking
  • Whatever is safe and supportive for you
If you or someone you know is looking for further support during this time, please feel free to reach out to our counselors at Rooted Compassion. We are here to help.
