December 2021 | Issue No. 19

Hello & welcome to my December newsletter. New Mexico is a magical place during the holidays. There are so many festive events & gatherings in communities around the state. Some of my very favorite traditions are the beautiful luminarias, or farolitos, you will find in abundance throughout neighborhoods in & around Albuquerque & Santa Fe. The first home I owned was in Barelas & my first Christmas Eve I stepped outside to see my entire street, including the front of my house, lined with farolitos. It was a magical, peaceful experience. I don't know about you, but the twinkling lights always bring me a sense of calm & peace that we certainly all need this year more than ever.

Another beloved annual celebration of lights, back again this year & sure to evoke childhood wonderment, is the River of Lights at the ABQ BioPark.
Are these family-friendly happenings part of your annual holiday traditions?

Speaking of traditions, what is your favorite dish served during the holidays? You'll find posole, tamales & biscochitos on the menu for most New Mexicans this time of year. As a Christmas or New Year's dish, posole is said to bring good luck for the coming year.

What's on your table this holiday season?

If you'd like to take your own self-guided luminaria tour around Albuquerque, there are plenty of neighborhoods to add to the list. You'll find festive luminarias in & around Old Town, the Country Club neighborhood & Tingley Beach area. Closer to UNM, the neighborhoods of Barelas (check out the National Hispanic Cultural Center before you drive around) & Ridgecrest, boast luminarias & lots of festive holiday displays. Further out, along Rio Grande Blvd (from Paseo del Norte to Alameda) you'll find beautiful displays, especially on Christmas Eve. The South Valley comprises a good amount of the bus tour provided by the City of Albuquerque so it's worth adding to your list for sure. In the North Valley, festive luminarias are abundant in the Lee Acres & Dietz Farms neighborhoods.

I can't believe this is my last newsletter for this year. I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy holiday season & to thank you for being a part of my life this year. I continue to be grateful & humbled daily by the trust you, my clients & friends, put in me. Seasons Greetings to you & your families & Happy New Year!
