Your Guide to No-Ship and No-Shop Gifts
As of today, it’s unlikely you will be able to have holiday gifts shipped without paying a high premium or risking a late arrival. And in-person shopping can (still — going on year two) feel uncomfortable and precarious. To the rescue: digital, online gifts!

Here is a roundup of inspired ideas for your artists, art-appreciating, cooks, and food-loving friends and family — and no shame in treating yourself, too 😘.

I’m starting the list with one of my favorite companies — Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (I mentioned their training company in the Vision newsletter). Zingerman’s Mail Order has a wide variety of Monthly Food Club Subscriptions to choose from — ranging in duration from three months to a full year, and in tastes from bacon to coffee to jam. My personal favorite is the Zingerman's Bread Club (I go with 6 months, 2 loaves each month).

Combining two of my loves — design and cooking — is Hardcover Cook. A subscription that pairs a great cookbook with specially selected ingredients to cook recipes from the book. You can choose from four different types of subscription boxes:
  • The Omnivore Box: For the voracious cook who loves exploring through cookbooks
  • The Essentials Box: For the busy cook looking to broaden their repertoire
  • The Vegetarian Box: For the cook who embraces a plant-based way of eating
  • The Baking Box: For the creative cook whose favorite medium is flour

Gifts of learning are especially awesome because they are experiential and the benefits of the gift keep on giving over time. Two of my favorite learning platforms are Carla Sonheim Presents and MasterClass.

Carla Sonheim and her husband Steve film and create an amazing selection of visual art courses taught by both Carla herself and guest teachers. Choose from topics like painting, collage, mixed media, sketchbooks, and more. Here are a few of my favorite classes that I have taken:
MasterClass is a broader topic platform with high quality, well-produced courses on a variety of subjects. Two of my favorites classes are Billy Collins Teaches Reading and Writing Poetry and Ron Finley Teaches Gardening. And right now they are running a limited time 2-for-1-offer!

Lastly, two of my go-to online sources for high quality ingredients. Gift certificates from Rancho Gordo or Nuts.com would make any cook’s holiday.

The flavor and quality of Rancho Gordo’s heirloom beans is so far superior to the commercial varieties, you’ll convert anyone into a legume lover.

Obviously the namesake of Nuts.com are varied and plentiful, but this online shop has so much more to offer than just nuts. Three of my can’t-do-without pantry staples are their sun dried tomatoes, umami powder and raw marcona almonds.

“Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.” ~ Bil Keane
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and joyful holiday season and I will see you in 2022…
xoxo
