Holy moly did modern technology ever lead us astray on Monday. We left Thurmont at noon headed home. It was not snowing in Thurmont. In fact, throughout this entire trip, we never saw any snow fall. Several friends had called and said the beltway was a mess and truthfully, we rarely use it in our travels between Maryland and South Carolina. So, my maps app said Route 15 south was clear and off we headed.
New vehicles with satellite radio are great – right? Nothing but music but sometimes local stations might just be better. Monday was one of those days. As we happily headed down the road with our tunes playing, all was going well. Things remain good south of Warrenton, VA but then our dual lane turned in to a single lane that was kind of plowed and we seemed to be encountering more trees that were down! Like down in the lane next to us!
Then the road turned in to - well something that might have been plowed but maybe not and traffic stopped. At this point we were 30 minutes south of Mary’s house in Culpeper. And for the next 5 hours we remained about 30 -35 minutes south of Mary’s house. LOL. Why? Well because the maps app told us to turn down a side road when the 2-lane sort of plowed highway remained at a standstill. So where did this detour take us? Let’s just say we (and the other 30 or more cars that followed their mobile app down this road) were traveling on a back road through the woods and over hills. We stopped to help people who got stuck because that is what people should do. Plus, on this road, there was only one path and it wasn’t a path made by plows it was made by the cars in front of us. Five Hours later and a whopping 6 miles down this road, we were informed that we all had to turn around! Say what? Unfortunately, over the next hill a dump truck had turned over and was blocking the road and the state police had shut it down! (Where the hell are we going to turn around was my only thought!)
Remember I said we were only 30 minutes from Mary’s (that is on a normal day). We finally arrived at her house around 8:30 pm. This would not have happened before XM radio that plays music all day or if I had not relied on my maps app that did not seem to understand that the roads were closed!!
Needless to say, we finally got home on Tuesday. I am really glad I was not one of those people who spent a very cold night on interstate 95 in Virginia.
This looks much better
We have one more trip to make to finish our clearing out of the building and in case you might want to get some more vintage goodies from the Warehouse or jewelry from the shop and lots of other great items, we have another auction that is open for bidding. https://gigis.hibid.com/catalog/339003/big-warehouse-auction/. It closes on Thursday, January 13th. The lots start closing Thursday evening at 7 pm. For those who are new to online bidding, the lots start closing at 7 pm and one will close about every minute until they are all closed. If you have any questions or problems getting registered give Steve a call at Gigi’s. (240-204-7840) He is very patient and can walk you through the registration and bidding process.
Meanwhile, I will pray for sunny skies when we are traveling up there next week!
