Hey,

Most of us know what we need to do to get something we want.

🏹 If we have the knowledge, we know we need to implement.

🏹 If we don't have the knowledge, we know we need to get it and then implement.

After having worked on a course with an emotional intelligence component in it, I got deep into habit building. Then, I worked on another course that taught people how to lose weight and be healthy without letting go of their favorite foods.

As I was going through the material, putting the information together, coming up with action steps, I started to see that the problem is not the lack of knowledge or lack of implementation necessarily.

Of course, if you don't do the work, you don't see results. But I know there's more to this than meets the eye.

If we eat something that doesn't agree with us, we say that we will never have that food ever again. Until we forget about how sick we felt back then.

We wake up one day so determined to change that we even set things in motion by making a deliciously healthy breakfast… only to find out that it's rare for those strong feelings to last.

And we go back to our habits because we have them for a reason = to be efficient and not have to put in so much effort all the time.

There's, of course, so much more that goes into this, as well as exceptions.

Still, how can you help someone maintain that desire they have when they first decide to change?

Apart from the constant reminders that you can sneak in throughout your content and courses, there's something else that helps.

It's to play to someone's strengths. We each have skills and ways of doing things. How can you help someone see that their skills are valuable and they don't need to put in so much effort as long as they are open to using those skills to their advantage.

We might want to change simply because we don't think that the way we're doing things now is the best way to see results. Realized this while on a virtual retreat.

Sure, there's always something to learn and improve. But wouldn't it be easier if we didn't think we had to change everything to get what we wanted?

Odds are we only need to change one simple thing to get what we want.

Have an expansive time and I'll catch you in the next one!

Hugs,

Tini
