Dear Camp People,
One of our core values at Crossways is Faith.
We train our young adult summer staff in how to lead worship and Bible study. But the best moments of the summer happen when faith shows up in unexpected ways.
One night this summer, because of passing storms, the campers were in their cabins with some unscheduled time. Some groups told stories, or played games, or even went to bed a little early. But in one cabin, the campers decided to sing slow worship songs together. For half an hour they harmonized and enjoyed the reflective moment with one another.
Can you think of a time like that in your own life? When you were able to tune into God, unhurried by your schedule, and embrace the natural spirituality of the moment?
It reminds me of The Message translation of Matthew 11: 28-30, where Jesus says,
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
For me, camp is one of those places I can count on to always experience the unforced rhythms of grace. Take a moment to watch this moment of worship from Homecoming 2021, to enjoy the harmonies, and rest in the love of God.
