As a mind mapping dabbler, I’m familiar with this technique but have never really “dug in”. After being inspired by artist and writer Austin Kleon, I decided to map out 2022 – see my results above.

It’s fascinating to see how connected my worlds are and what items repeat. Seeing health and wellness points around the entire periphery of my mind map also reminded me that taking care of my mind and body is a priority this year.

WHAT WOULD YOUR MIND MAP REVEAL?

To better understand what went well and not-so-well in 2021 & consider what's coming in 2022, I did an annual review using these 10 Life Design Categories

1.    Health + Fitness
2.    Home + Belongings
3.    Work + Business
4.    Personal Life + Family
5.    Friends + Community
6.    Learning + Knowledge
7.    Creativity + Hobbies
8.    Travel + Culture
9.    Emotions + Spirituality
10.  Money + Finance

This structure enabled me to systematically consider each area of my life in terms of wins and revelations. Seeing my life revealed in this way reminded me that despite the challenges of pandemic/normal life, integrity, grit and creativity remain key drivers. Overall, I feel grateful for my life and am embracing it fully.

HOW CAN THESE CATEGORIES HELP YOU?

I’m a huge fan of this Amsterdam-based artist who creates fascinating art by organizing everyday objects. In this short documentary, he takes us through his process of creating categorized and beautifully organized items.

The culminating rainbow installation of ALL his possessions (photo above) really shows his quirky blend of creativity and organization big time!

DO CREATIVITY & ORGANIZATION BELONG TOGETHER?

Listen

I've always admired P!NK who defies what the music industry expects and consistently creates music that feels honest and revealing.. The visuals in this video are whimsical and truth telling…and feature cameo's by her family and Cher! It makes me think about what I know, what I'm unknowing, and what is still to know.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW SO FAR?

Found this cool visual brainstorming and mind mapping app called MindNode which lets you capture, organize, style and share your thoughts.

Whether you’re writing a book, planning a trip, or doing an annual review, this app is a wonderful companion to the ever-effective pen and paper method.
