Dear HHCA Middle & Upper School Fine Arts Parents,

Welcome to February! We have many exciting HHCA Fine Arts events approaching but I wanted to specifically highlight the Sidewalk Arts Festival and Winter Recital coming up on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

Ms. Booth will be leading an outdoor sidewalk chalk competition from 3:00-5:00 PM for MS and US artists to create their masterpiece! While students are transforming their assigned section of sidewalk, guests are invited to watch the spaces come to life. The event will conclude with prizes to be awarded to our talented student artists and a local food truck to offer a dinner option to those staying for the winter recital. Interested MS and US artists may register by signing up HERE

At 6:30 PM, HHCA invites the community to enjoy a wonderful evening of solos, duos, and small combos from HHCA's Fine Arts Department. Mr. Berry's MS and US students will perform classical, jazz, Broadway, and pop music selections. Winter Recital tickets are $10 for all ages and may be purchased at hhca.eventbrite.com or at the door.  Performers will receive a specific e-mail with more details in the next week as the recital program is finalized.

For any interested Fine Arts parents or Booster members, I will also be giving a 3Q Fine Arts Boosters update this Friday from 7:45-8:30 AM in the band room. We also have exciting events coming up including The Wizard of Oz. Check out the exciting Fine Arts spring calendar below and thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Saturday, March 5
Newberry College Jazz Festival
In an effort to expand HHCA's participation in larger, state-wide music events, The HHCA Jazz Band has the unique opportunity to participate in the Newberry College Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 5th. The experience offers the chance to perform at Newberry College and will be adjudicated by a college professor. This will be an incredible experience for our students and details will be sent home soon.

March 17-19
HHCA's K-12 Production of The Wizard of Oz
Seahawk Cultural Center
We are extremely excited to present this full-scale production complete with a large cast of K-12 students and a live pit orchestra. This will be an incredible showcase of our students' talent on and off the stage taking place at the Seahawk Cultural Center. Evening performances will take place on March 17, 18 and 19 with an additional matinee at March 19.  Please note that all cast, crew and orchestra will be involved in a mandatory tech week from March 12-19.  Details regarding ticket sales will be released following the Winter Recital.

April 29-30
SC Solo and Ensemble Festival (tentative)
This is yet another opportunity for our students to be recognized at a larger, state-wide level. The SC Region 4 Solo and Ensemble Festival will take place April 29th and 30th at Cane Bay Middle School in Summerville, S.C.  This event is similar to the SCISA Music Festival with soloists and small ensembles performing for an adjudicated judge to receive a rating and feedback on their performance. Registration is required soon, so please let me know if your student is unavailable on either of these days.

Thursday, May 5

Carowinds Music Trip
A loved HHCA Fine Arts tradition, I'm excited for the return of our annual trip to Carowinds for all Middle and Upper School music students. This is not a required event for students, but a very fun way to end the year and celebrate an incredible year of hard work!
