Does anyone else ever feel this way? For the longest time, I've felt like my energy, my self, is snagged at the base of my throat. Like, “Here I am! Here I come!”—gushing up from my heart, my core, my rooted self—and then:
Thunk.
There's a kink in the garden hose right at the fifth chakra spot. Right exactly there. Good stuff flowing up, and then:
Nada.
I've been thinking about that lately. There's something about entrepreneurship that urges you to flow. That invites you to become fully visible. That requires you to make a sound—to say, clearly: “I'm here.”
So, I'm a copywriter. I write persuasive words that help sell products, services, and ideas.
But.
When you're an entrepreneur, know what you're really “selling”?
You're selling you.
You're raising your hand, and you're saying: “I am me, and I have value.”
You're selling you.
And you know what people are buying? They're buying themselves. They're investing in possibility. They're casting votes for the shape of their lives.
So you know what my job is, really? It's to help one group of people find the courage to say, “I am me, and I have value.” And it's to help another group of people find, recognize, and invest in things that will shape them.
From the earliest modules of the copywriting coursework that would shape me into my current form, I was laser-focused on one thing: “I'm not using this to sell Cheetos.”
I mean, don't get me wrong. Cheetos are awesome. And crunchy.
But if I'm in the business of putting words to courage, of holding space for the Vishuddha to open in myself and in others, of leading people to cast votes for the shapes of their lives, I'm going to be picky. I'm not selling Cheetos.
I am me, and I have value. (Oh my goodness, say that. Notice how your throat feels.)
